Supplies You Will Need For Scrapbooking

If you have been meaning to take that shoebox filled with pictures and turn them into a book filled with memories, now is the time. Creating a scrapbook is one of the best-loved hobbies, there are plenty of items on the market that can help you create a great book. People who are beginners may find themselves overwhelmed by all of the options out there. You may walk into the scrapbook store or the scrapbook section of your favorite craft store and realize you have no idea where to begin. Options are limitless, but if you are just getting started on your scrapbooks, there is no reason to go overboard. If you do not know the difference between a cropping machine and a contract die cutting or OEM die cutting machine, do not panic. Armed with a list of a few simple items, you can escape to the nearest arts and crafts shop with everything you need to create a great family photo album.

First, check your scissors at home. Be sure they are sharp and able to cut small pieces of paper. If you find you need new scissors; look for a few important features. Buy scissors that are small enough to cut around the images so you can really personalize your book. You may only want a portion of a photo in your album, so being able to trim it down is important. There are also decorative scissors that will give you a decorate cut that is fun for scrapbook makers.

Paper is one of the main things to invest in, but there are a few important things to understand about paper. First, it needs to be archive quality. This means the paper is specially made so that over time, it does not harm your photos. If what you want is not available in archive quality paper, you can copy the pictures you want to preserve onto a computer disc and use the hard copies in the scrapbook. The photos may break down over time, but you will have them preserved forever electronically. There are plenty of options for designs, patterns, colors and sizes of papers when it comes to creating your own scrapbook, so plan to spend some time browsing the selection at your favorite arts and crafts store.

Adhesives are another thing that should be archive quality. You need to make sure the glues, tapes and stickers you use do not break down your photos. Many people opt to use photo corners instead of glue. These allow you to take photos in and out of the book without damage so you can scan them once the book is done. You also do not have to worry about applying glue or tape directly to the photo.

Finally, as your collection grows, you will need to organize it. Take a look at your collection of tools and materials and fine boxes and shelves that will work for keeping the materials organized. A lot of people use a suitcase specifically designed to keep all of your papers, pictures, scissors and stickers organized. Keeping things organized helps you remember what you have and helps you create great looking books.
