Essential Oil Singles For Massages

Massage therapists have been known to use essential oils in their massaging sessions. This is because essential oils, which are made from herbs and plants, are sweet smelling oils which bring soothing relief. Beyond that however, many of these essential oils carry within them, healing properties that are beneficial to a person when used in a massage therapy. The use of essential oils is called aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is the use of sweet smelling essential oils to positively affect a person. These oils usually work on the physical wellbeing of a person and have been known to greatly enhance moods in a positive manner. They have been used to promote spiritual wellbeing since ancient times and modern medicine has embraced the use of aromatherapy to enhance mental wellness.

In massage therapy, essential oils can be used in diverse ways. There are two common methods that massage therapists apply when using essential oil for massage therapy. The first is the use of essential oil blends, which is the mixture of several different essential oils to create a specific result in the client. These could be mood enhancers or blends for relief from physical pain. Some blends contain carrier oils which are used to dilute the strong properties of the essential oils as some might be harmful to the skin or cause an allergic reaction in a client.

The second method is the use of essential oil singles. This is the direct usage of a pure essential oil without mixing it with any other essential oil or without mixing with any carrier oil. Some really strong singles need to be mixed with carrier oil to avoid irritation. However, there are those that can be used directly, thus increasing their healing properties on the client.

One good example is Basil essential oil. This is an essential oil single that has amazing aromatic and therapeutic powers. Used in massage therapy, basil stimulates blood flow and helps to decongest the pulmonary arteries and veins. More than that though, it relives sinus congestion and aids in healing cold and flu infections. Basil has been used for mental stimulation and is instrumental in easing headaches. The healing properties of basil are so diverse that it is a favourite with massage therapists. The benefits extend to include relief from depression as it is used to calm anxiety and hysteria. It is also a pain reliever and is used for rheumatoid arthritis, cramps and spasms.

Another great essential oil single is Chamomile. Like Basil, chamomile also contains multiple healing properties and its benefits are numerous. It is used as a relaxant, applied to the muscles to get them to relax. It is also great for headaches and is a favourite for facial treatments. Pure chamomile essential oil is used in the massage of children and in prenatal massages because of its gentle nature. For those suffering from insomnia, pure chamomile essential oil is a good choice as it eases stress and soothes anxiety.

Other singles include Clary Sage essential oil which is used for deep tissue massage to bring tranquillity and reduce muscle pain; Eucalyptus essential oil, also used for deep tissue massage and on the chest and abdomen and Ginger essential oil which is used to enhance the memory amongst others.

When purchasing essential oil singles, it is advisable to stick to pure oils that contain no chemicals or fillers.
