Fitted and Sliding Wardrobes to Revolutionize Your Bedroom

When we moved home recently, one thing I really hadn\’t given much thought to was wardrobes. Our former house, had fitted wardrobes. These were practical as they maximize space in a room, but as they had not been put in by us, their layout was not entirely what we might have chosen ourselves. While fitted wardrobes are very practical, you must ensure that they are fitted in properly and into the best slot possible.

When I started thinking about wardrobes for the brand new house, I decided to shop around and get a feel for what was available first. My objective was to buy fantastic quality, free-standing wardrobes, which would last us for years and go with us if and when we moved again. I already had the rest of the bedroom furniture so needed to find matching wardrobes. I looked in all the high street shops and also on the internet. I also took the opportunity to ask my friends where they had bought their wardrobes from.

I had figured that the master bedroom would take a double wardrobe as there was a huge alcove, however I was seriously doubting whether we would be ok with just one wardrobe. Possibly we needed two. The concern was if I put two wardrobes in the bedroom, it would take up a lot of space.

It seemed that a normal double size wardrobe would not be enough to accommodate both our needs. my clothes took up a lot of space and even though my husband said I could use his side, this still would not be enough. It seemed however that fortune was shining on me. I found a triple-sized wardrobe that would fit into the alcove with millimetres to spare, which answered all my needs. It had two generous double-fronted wardrobes on either side with a single in the middle which had been given over to shelving and drawers.

The only thing that was left to do was choose the finish of the wardrobe. I thought about placing mirrored doors on the outside as this would create a sense of illusion. But, in the end we decided in favour of a light beech finish which looked much more elegant. I just placed a mirrored door in the middle of the wardrobe and the end effect was fantastic. Not only that though, the mirrored door saved me from having to buy a stand up mirror and this once again meant extra space.

There was not a large decision to make for wardrobes in the children\’s room as they just needed a individual wardrobe. However, because their rooms were fairly small, I thought buying small double wardrobes, with drawers and shelves included, would eliminate the need for other furniture in the room. The drawers and shelves could be used to store their toys. The wardrobes are very well constructed and the finishings are perfect. Even more, they suit our needs down to the ground and will still be useful in ten years time.
