Bail Bonds Keep People Out of Jail Until the Case is Heard

Anyone who has ever been in trouble with the law will know how scary it is to be held in jail until the court case is heard. To this end, there are agents who pay in to the court the amount set so that the accused can run free until the appearance in court. For those who think that they may have to avail themselves of this service, try looking up ‘bail bond’ or ‘bail bonds’ online to see which ones are available in the local area.

Once someone has been arrested and arraigned in court, it is up to the court whether to let them stay free until the court case is heard or not. This will certainly depend on the severity of the case, and also if the accused has a previous criminal record. If the judge thinks that there is a flight risk, he has two choices; either to keep the accused incarcerated, or to set him free by making him pay a substantial amount of returnable money into the court. No one wants to lose vast amounts of money so this is normally enough to make them come back.

For those who do not have this cash or surety at hand, they now have to look for agent to put up the guarantee for them. The agent normally needs ten percent or more to make this guarantee to the court. This can come in many forms and does not necessarily have to be in cash. Title deeds for houses or properties can be used along with credit card payments or checks.

Usually the family of friends to the accused will come up with the amount that is necessary just so that their loved one can get his liberty. However, this can be quite a dangerous game if he escapes since what was put up will surely be forfeited. This means then that a family home may have to be sold to pay for something that the owner did not have a hand in! Parents often get caught out in this way since they just cannot believe that their kids did anything wrong for sure.

Once the person has escaped, it is now for the agent to deal with the court. He will obviously be fined and will be liable for the full amount if he cannot find the accused and bring him back to face the music.

To this end, many agents now use modern-day bounty hunters to go after people who are trying to hide from the courts. Although they may give this a good attempt, it is very difficult to hide from the computer network since wherever they try to find work, the social security number will be flagged. This sends up a signal to the agents who send in armed personnel to bring that person back to the courts immediately.

Although this all sounds a little cloak and dagger, it is up to the accused to come to court and fight his case. Without these agents, there would surely be a lot more innocent people in jail waiting to be heard.
