Is PLORB the Cure For Diabetes?
PLORB is not the cure for diabetes. There is no cure for diabetes. However, PLORB can be a useful tool for reversing Adult Onset Diabetes. There are three things you need to do to reverse diabetes:
* maintain your blood sugar in the normal range (70 – 125 mg/dL)
* Maintain your blood pressure in the normal range (>90/60mm Hg; 40 [men] > 50 [women]; LDL < 130; Triglycerides < 149; Total Cholesterol < 200 ).
If you can do all three of these things, you will have reversed your diabetes. Doing this will help you avoid the complications of diabetes.
One of the best ways to accomplish this is through diet and exercise. Nathan Pritikin was the pioneer of this approach. Julian Whittaker and Dean Ornish followed in his footsteps, elaborating on the theme somewhat.
For diet, the general principle is very simple: No sugar. No fat. No salt. That\'s the plan in a nutshell. The problem with all these diets is that you have to learn to cook all over again. This makes it complicated, time-consuming, and hard. An additional complication is that it is difficult to buy food ingredients today that are not loaded with either sugar, fat, or salt.
I have simplified the diet by concentrating on just one meal. This doesn\'t provide a lot of variety, but it makes everything simple enough so there should be no reason to delay getting started. While it is true that one gets tired of eating the same thing all the time, this is a good way to get started quickly. In addition, this is not something you will have to do for the rest of your life; it is an emergency diet. In our experience it has only taken six months to reverse the condition.
In addition to the PLORB, you can eat all the fresh fruits and steamed vegetables you want. You can eat all the nonfat yogurt you want, as long as it has no sugar added. The same is true of rice cakes (as long as they don\'t have oil or sugar). You can chop up vegetables and eat them as salads. (Just watch what you use as dressing–lemon juice is always safe.) You can chop up a bunch of fruit and eat it by the plateful. You can have as much fresh fruit and vegetable juice as you want (as long as there is no sugar added.)
What is PLORB?
PLORB is a mixture of Peas, Lentils, Oats, Rice, and Barley, which is cooked in a slow cooker. It contains virtually no sugar, very little salt, hardly any fat, lots of good-quality protein, and lots of soluble fiber.
How do you Make PLORB?
Take 1/4 cup (by volume) of the following:
– split Peas,
– Lentils,
– Oat groats,
– brown Rice, and
– Barley.
Inspect them for rocks, foreign matter, and other bad stuff.
Mix them all together and place 1 cup (by volume) of the mixture into a slow cooker. Add 3 cups of water.
Add 1 tablespoon each, of the following:
– bouillon mix powder,
– soy sauce,
– A-1 sauce,
– Worcestershire sauce,
– imitation bacon bits.
Cook in the slow cooker until the water is gone. Serve on a plate, topped with avocado, olives, or walnuts.
The Exercise Part:
In order to fulfill the diet and exercise components of this approach, you will also need to perform some aerobic exercise (I like walking) for at least 120 minutes ( but preferably 150 minutes) per week. That\'s only 20 to 30 minutes per day.
