The history of La Gloria Cubana cigars dates all the way back to 1885. At one time, these little treasures were a well kept Havana secret, but today they have become a cigar brand loved all over the world. Most famous for the R series, La Gloria Cubana cigars are available in more than twenty-three sizes that are not only bold, but they also taste like royalty…luxurious.

In 1885 Sociedad Cabanas Castro created the La Gloria Cubana brand, which until 1954 remained relatively obscure. In 1905, Jose F. Rocha, founder of Bolivar Cigars, bought the La Gloria marquee in an effort to expand his tobacco empire. Still, the prominence of La Gloria Cubana would not come till many years later with the help of none other than the Cifuentes family…shocker.

If you know anything about the Cifuentes family, then you will agree that it is no surprise that when they put their hand in anything regarding tobacco, it turns to gold. So Mr. Rocha passes on in 1954, and the Cifuentes bought La Gloria Cubana, as well as Bolivar, and moved production to their Partagas factory. In 1958, the Partagas Factory became the second largest exporter of Cuban cigars, next to H. Upmann accounting for over a quarter of all export ted tobacco goods. Cifuentes y Cia continued to manufacture La Gloria and Bolivar until the Castro Revolution, when the newly formed Cubatabaco arm of the government took over the factory and cigar production there.

After a hiatus of over 17 years, the patron of the family, Ramon Cifuentes, began to produce Partagas, Bolivar, and La Gloria Cubana cigars for The General Cigar Company and the U.S. market from Jamaica. In 1968, Ramon moved production to a farm and factory in the Dominican Republic where they are still made today, as well as in a factory in Little Havana located in Miami. Prior Co-owner, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, Jr. founded the Miami factory, El Credito Cigar Company, and created the most popular La Gloria R Series in 1999 for smokers who wanted a full-bodied taste in a larger cigar. Their larger sizes and ring gages helped create today’s tremendous demand for a larger, full-bodied smoke.

La Gloria Cubana cigars are hand rolled and produced in small quantities, which lend itself to high quality and perfection. They are made with a special blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican filler and binder, wrapped in an exquisite Ecuadorian aged wrapper, ensuring their boldly rich flavor for which the brand is adored. La Gloria Cubana cigars also manufactures two machine-made cigarillos, they are named Purito and Mini.
