How to Do Meditation: Three Simple Ways to Meditate

If you\’ve been wondering about how to do meditation then here are some ways that you can choose from. They are all easy ways to meditate and are definitely suitable for meditation beginners.

One thing to remember before embarking on any form of meditation is that it\’s a perfectly natural form of relaxation and has been practiced for centuries across the globe. So you\’re not alone, although it\’s still less common in the Western world than it maybe should be.

Walking meditation

Definitely one of the easiest ways to meditate as you don\’t even need to change from your regular conscious state to a deeper meditative state. Instead, you walk with a purpose. Not the purpose of getting to the shops or the office. But with the purpose of becoming more \”at one\” with your local environment.

As you walk, begin to notice things.

Notice the way your body feels as you walk along. Drink in the local scenery – chances are you\’ll have several moments when you think \”I\’ve never seen that before\” because previously you weren\’t really paying attention when you walked along.

Also pay attention to the sights and sounds around you. This could be pavements or trees or traffic or the sound of birds.

Breathing meditation

Again, this is a simple way to meditate and as it\’s perfectly normal to breath, there\’s not too much thought to go into how to do a breathing meditation, at least at the simpler levels.

Pay attention to your breathing. Sure, you are taking breaths in and out as you read this but chances are they are pretty much an automatic response. Something you\’ve been doing unconsciously all your life.

Instead, notice the air flowing down your wind pipe and into your lungs. Does it feel cold or warm as it flows into your lungs? Does it taste or smell?

Then pay attention as you breathe out. Again, notice the sensations that accompany your breathing.

Even though you breathe all the time, my guess is that you\’ll notice lots of different things as you practice this easy form of breathing meditation.

As you get more skilled, there are more advanced ways of breathing meditation that you can investigate – they\’re actually quite energetic and can leave you feeling invigourated when you complete them.

Binaural beats meditation

The twenty-first century way to meditate – do nothing except listen to an MP3.

There really can\’t be an easier way to meditate!

The MP3 will be specially designed to slightly confuse your mind. I know some of you will be like me and will be regularly confused anyway, but this is different.

The binaural beats are just slightly \”off\” in that a marginally different tone is played into each ear. If you played them out loud, you\’d be hard pushed to notice a difference. But your brain notices and tries to resolve the difference.

This pushes you into a meditative state that would otherwise take years of practice to achieve. I told you it was easy!

o there you have it, three very different ways of how to do meditation, all equally effective. So it\’s down to you which you prefer to use.
