A Perfect Smile is Possible If a Good Dentist is Found

The one thing that we show to the world every day, without us really realizing it, is our smile. When we have teeth that are less than perfect, we often become introverted and shy about showing the teeth and end up either looking too serious for most of the time or downright unfriendly at worst. If anyone is having a problem in this area, it may be wise to contact a dentist to see what they can do to right this fault.

With the wonders of modern medicine today, there are major advances when it comes to teeth and mouth. There are many treatments for people who have dirty, broken or generally misshapen teeth and all it takes is a visit to the expert to start the ball rolling.

In days gone by, many people were subjected to gas anesthetic which was not pleasant at all. These days though, there are many methods to make the visit as pain-free as possible. Indeed, some experts now deal with hypnotherapy to relax the nervous patient too and only then will the needle come out to deaden gums etc.

Once the patient has plucked up courage to visit the expert in his office, an initial inspection of the teeth will take place. If there are already fillings present, these will be tested to see if they need replacing. If there are none, the teeth are looked at to see if there are any underlying problems which have to be sorted out first.

Abscesses, ulcers, gum disease and any other problems in the mouth may need a course of antibiotics before any work can be done. After this, the expert will give a full run down of what should be done immediately, what can be done in the mid-term, and what should be done in the future. To work this out he may have to take several x-rays etc so that the roots of the teeth can be seen quite clearly.

Once the medical side of the teeth has been done, he may also be able to suggest some cosmetic work which will improve the whole look of the teeth. This can range between veneers to titanium implants which help the person to get a smile that they are proud of.

Veneers are simply thin slivers of porcelain made to cover the teeth to give a smooth and neat look. They cover small gaps in the teeth and can also be used to make the teeth look even. They are simply stuck to each individual tooth, once a cast has been made of the original tooth, and last for many years.

On the other hand, titanium posts are implanted directly into the jawbone when a tooth has had to be removed. On top of this clips a false tooth but it will look just like the real thing and will be permanent. Once all this work has been done, the patient should end up with a perfect smile which he or she is not afraid to flash at the world at large.
