It also gives out an acoustic sound along with an electric sound on being plugged to the amplifier. Then again these are prone for feedbacks on being amplified at high levels.

The wood that goes in the making of electric guitars has a direct effect on their tone and weight of the guitar. Expensive woods need not necessarily enhance the quality of the sound but different woods bring out different sounds. It is more of your preference as to what sounds pleasing to your ears. Tone woods supposedly high in stability and strength are considered ideal wood for electric guitars, the common among these being mahogany and maple.

Pickups are yet another important feature of electric guitars. Generally there are two pickups found near the fret and bridge of the guitar. While the former produces a dense bass-y sound the latter produces more of a treble twang-y sound. A switch below the pickups helps in blending the sound. A few guitars offer a third pickup found in the middle that gives out a mid-frequency sound for extra blending options. Conventional guitars come with three-position switch with the high-end ones offering five-position switch to choose from that helps in changing the pickup’s phase relationship bringing out a more glassy tone.

So having known so much about electric guitars there are a few other basic things to follow if you want to be a real pro. For starters, get used to a tuner and a metronome, a discipline while practicing electric guitar. Try getting into the habit of tuning your guitar every now and then during practice sessions. Yet another important aspect while learning to play the guitar is the exact way of holding it during your long hours of practice. The last thing you want is to straining your neck, back and shoulders and ending up with a medical condition. Likewise amplifiers play an important role with electric guitars. Remember the note has to sound perfect when it comes out of the amplifier. So choose an amplifier that best suits your instrument.
