America is trying to slowly wean itself off foreign oil dependency and efficient cars are quite in demand. Not only is it more affordable to drive an eco-conscious car but these vehicles also put out less pollution. Ford is stepping up by its new C-MAX hybrid. This auto is set to debut in late 2012 or early 2012 and will give the big players some serious competition. This vehicle is expected to be able to reach speeds of up to 47 mph on the electric motor alone. Travel any faster than that and the traditional motor will take over and give you an additional boost. That means that the C-MAX may be approaching the 50 mpg mark and giving the Prius, which is currently the top-selling hybrid in America, some serious competition.

Ford plants to build this car in its large assembly plant located in Wayne, Michigan. Ford is definitely being very environmentally friendly since the Michigan factory uses systems that are fueled with energy from the sun and it will use a blend of traditional energy and renewable energy. Most of the major auto makers purchase their batteries from other suppliers but Ford will make its own which will result in lower overhead costs which will be passed on to the consumer. The majority of hybrids for sale utilize Nimh batteries but the C-MAX will use lithium-ion batteries which are much lighter and smaller. The Prius is a vehicle that uses the Nimh style battery.

The auto will proudly boast a hybrid edge, headlamps with a blue tint and an Aston Martin style grille. The C-MAX’s motor engine will be a V4 Atkinson-cycle. The C-MAX’s powertrain will be similar to that of the 2011 Ford Fusion hybrid but an improved version with more power and versatility. Its powertrain enables the car to drive in electric mode up to certain speeds and have the traditional engine take over once the vehicle reaches a fast speed. Consumers will be able to select from two versions; the hybrid and plug-in hybrid (the C-MAX Energi). The plug-in version can be plugged in a regular one hundred and twenty volt outlet for a quick recharge.

Drivers who own a smart phone will be able to download a versatile and useful app called My Ford Mobile. It will enable the driver to locate the vehicle by GPS if necessary, view the car’s charging status and even control the cabin’s temperature. It can even charge the car at the exact time when electricity rates are the lowest in order to minimize utility bills.

Ford will definitely create a lot of buzz and talk in the hybrid market with its new versatile and innovative hybrids. Competition will be fierce as auto makers compete to build the most efficient autos with the Prius as the top car to beat. As of this very moment, the Prius is the best-selling and most popular hybrid in America. Let’s see if the C-MAX can infuse the market with new vigor and take the hybrid market to the next level.
