Airline travel has never been cheap, but with the additional baggage fees many airlines are charging today, travel costs may seem out of control. Unfortunately, you have no choice but to pay the costs if you travel, unless you think of cost-saving ideas that may cut out the baggage fees or at least reduce them. There are several ways to get around baggage fees without sacrificing too severely. If you want to travel, but the high cost of baggage fees is going to set you back a great deal, you need to find a better solution. Start by determining if you can carry-on your baggage. Most airlines allow you to do this for free, as long as your bag is small enough to fit in the plane’s overhead compartments. Some people do not like to carry-on because it is a pain dragging their bags through security and the terminal. If you really have a problem with carrying on your baggage, there are still a few solutions. If you pack lighter, you can save yourself a few dollars in checked baggage fees. Consider sharing your baggage cost with another traveler. If you are traveling with a friend, family member or travel group, pull your baggage resources. Many suitcases are way too large for one person, so if you both pack your items in one case, you can split the cost of checking the bag. You will stay be paying, but this 50% discount can make a big difference in your travel budget.

Keep in mind none of these solutions may work for you. Sometimes when you are traveling, you just have to go with a lot of stuff. If this is the case, build the cost of your baggage fees into your travel budget. Look for someplace else you can cut back to compensate for paying for your baggage. Though fees seem expensive, it is probably easy enough to shave off the cost of the fee somewhere else by grabbing a cheaper meal, using a coupon for an activity or traveling on a different day to share on airline cost.
