Hypnobirthing Vs Hypnobabies

Hypnobirthing and Hypnobabies are more popular than ever now, but with the increase in popularity there has also been an increase in confusion. What is the difference between hypnobirthing and hypnobabies? And which method works best to provide a drug free and pain-free childbirth?

The technical term for a childbirth method that employs any sort of hypnosis is \”hypnosis birth\”, but the more commonly used term is \”hypnobirthing\”. There are many hypnobirthing methods such as Hypnobabies, HypBirth, and the Mongan Method. However, when people refer to hypnobirthing, they are generally referring to the Mongan Method of HypnoBirthing, which is the most popular program.

Marie Mongan is a certified hypnotherapist and is also the founder of the HypnoBirthing Institute. She has authored several books on the subject and has been one of the driving forces behind the increasing interest in hypnosis birth. The Mongan Method is a method of natural childbirth that uses relaxation techniques which are enhanced by self-hypnosis. This is meant to tap into women\’s natural childbirth instincts in order to have a safer and more comfortable birth. There is also a strong emphasis on pre-birth parenting as well as pregnancy nutrition and exercise.

While the Mongan Method can be learned simply by reading her books, the program is really meant to be learned in the classroom. There are a series of five classes and when you sign up for the class you will also receive many additional resources including her book, CDs, and scripts. Classes are available throughout the United States and in many other countries throughout the world. Her network of trained practitioners is larger than that of any other hypnobirthing method, and you should have no trouble finding a class in just about any city.

Hypnobabies is a newer hypnobirthing method that was developed by Kerry Tuschoff. She was trained and certified in some of the other methods, but found that the results were inconsistent and often ineffective. After seeing one too many of her students have a painful birth experience, she began her quest for a better method. She began studying hypnosis techniques and put together a program that focuses on medical hypnotic anesthesia techniques, rather than just the visualization and imagery that is done with typical hypnobirthing classes. The results and feedback have been great, and Hypnobabies has seen a surge in popularity.

The only drawback with Hypnobabies is that their network of instructors is much smaller than that of the HypnoBirthing Institute. To compensate for this, they focus more on their home study program, which provides all of the course material in CDs, workbooks, and study guides. The advantages of home study are that it can be done anywhere at anytime, and that you don\’t have to worry about the possibility of getting a poor instructor.

Hypnobirthing has a long track record of success, and has definitely been helpful to many women. But a quick check of their online reviews will show that there is sometimes more discomfort than advertised. Hypnobabies is clearly a step above hypnobirthing because it uses true medical hypnosis to eliminate pain and to allow for a peaceful and relaxing birth.
