Every sport has certain rites of passage and that\’s part of makes high school football such an indelible part of young football players high school memories. One of these rites may go by different names in our pc obsessed times but the result is the same to the poor football player just coming off the easy days of summer. Hell Week is that black/white transition to full football practice and it\’s hell. The Hell Week badge is actually pretty simple in it\’s animation but we really like the effect. There\’s a red helmet on the left side against a black background. Across the animation are a low level flame that rises to engulf the helmet. From the right side, a fire extinguisher rises and puts out the flames across the screen and coats the helmet is a thin white frosting. As the extinguisher fluid lifts, you see the red words \”Hell Week\” across the middle with a white glazing on top. Most of the animation is with the flames which dance across the screen and flicker about. it\’s tough to pull off cool flames with only 7 frames so we put a lot of work into that. We think we nailed it but you\’ll let us know as a community if you choose the badge. So what does the helmet and flames all mean and how does it apply to Hell Week?

Hell Week is freakin hot! It\’s usually the last week of summer smack in the middle of August which is the hottest month of the year in most areas. It\’s the first week of practice in full pads which seems to kick up the temperature by 15 degrees and the worst part is the helmet. It\’s bad enough that you now have to lug around an extra 15-20 pounds of gear but now you\’re head is essentially in a pressure cooker under the heat of the sun. Your head generates most of the radiated heat of your body and a football player, with his oversized head of the future, probably generates even more. That heat just builds inside your helmet and has no where to go. You feel like the helmet\’s on fire and that\’s exactly what we wanted to capture for the Hell Week high school football badge.
