How Distinctive Are Cat Personalities?

There are cats which are very well-behaved. There are those that are stubborn and don\’t seem to listen to their owners. Why is this so? Well, the explanation can be on the cat personality every cat may have. There are different personalities and there are several reasons why they come to be and why they can be different from each other.

Cats tend to adapt to their environments at ages of about a couple of weeks to about 8 weeks. This is the time wherein they are no longer fearful of things around them. This can also be a stage wherein they can easily mingle with other cats, humans and even dogs.

This can be hastened by increasing interaction with the cat. So, if you want your pet to not be fearful of you, you need to spend time with it. Several minutes to hours in a day will be very helpful.

And of course, another thing that will have an effect on your cat\’s personality is how you will discipline it. There are owners who will punish their pets for a mistake made. They can do this is a stern manner, even verging on abusive. But, there can also be those who will discipline their cats with less physical and hurtful ways.

Also, the giving of rewards is a factor that can change the behavior of a cat, much like in humans and children. When one correct thing is done, there will be corresponding rewards as you want that behavior to be repeated.

You can also train your cats just how it is done with dogs. They will be able to perform several things that you want them to do.

Aside from your own efforts, cats and their personalities are also affected by how their mothers are. Mother cats can pass on their genes to their young. These genes can signify how the cat will be behaving. Another thing that the mother can be instrumental is on how she takes care of her young and how she is with them.

Younger cats may tend to follow how their mothers are as this is the behavior that they see around them. So, it can be possible that if the mother is fearful of humans, the same behavior can be observed in the young cats.

For those who did not grow up with their mother, of course, their behavior will be dependent on the person or animal that took care of them. The same principle may apply. Meaning whatever the caregiver does can be what they cat will perceive, each action can either be a good and friendly thing or a bad threat.

Also, not only the genes of the mother will be passed on to the young, their fathers will also play a big part and contribute to how their personalities will be. Although behavior and personality may not be directly conclusive with what the behaviors of their parents are, there are certain findings that show similarities and relationships. Therefore, it is worth looking into this factor.
