The biggest problems guys face when they just meet a woman and are trying to flirt and establish rapport by text is they can’t convey tone or context.

I can’t tell you how many misunderstandings and lost opportunities men have posted about on PUA Forum that have come about as a result of sloppy texting.

When you are having a text conversation, there is all kinds of room for misinterpretation and confusing. It makes it very difficult to clarify things at times and can lead to annoying messages.

For example, say you meet a girl at her job at the bookstore and get her number. While you are bantering over text, she asks if you are going to come in and visit her.

“Of course,” you say. “I definitely want to see you again.”

Her reply is that she gets off at 9 p.m.

So what do you do? Some guys would just assume that means that if he is going to visit her at work, he better do so before 9 p.m. because after that she’ll be gone. If you assume that, then you are missing a huge opportunity she just gave you. She did not say, “Come before 9 p.m.” she said, “I get off at 9 p.m.”

Your response should be “I’ll come by a few minutes before 9 p.m. and then walk you home, (or buy you dinner or whatever you want to do with her afterward).”

Be an alpha male and set this up. Don’t be wimpy. If she can’t do that or doesn’t want to do that, she’ll let you know. Otherwise, you have a date. If you approached it by texting back, “How about I show up before 9 and then can I take you to dinner?” may work, but it is not as sexy and assertive as the first example, where you are just telling her what you are going to do.

Don’t ask permission. She told you when she gets off for a reason. Take the hint and be an alpha male.

There are also unfortunate misunderstandings that occur by texting. The best way to avoid that happening to you is to keep your texts simple and short. If there is something more complicated or in-depth you need to say, dial her number.

Texting should be used as a quick way to make plans, but also a way to flirt. It is not the only way to communicate. It is one method in your repertoire of ways to communicate with a girl.
