Choosing Between SEO and Pay Per Click Marketing

Choosing a search engine marketing technique (SEO and/or Pay per click) is an important step in your online marketing efforts. But which one should you choose? Should you use both? There are major differences between the two techniques and the ways to go about achieving the results. In a nutshell, the decision to select between SEO and PPC all comes down to three things. Those three things are: your monetary budget, how quickly you need sales and what your primary business goals/objectives are.

Choosing SEO over PPC

Search engine optimization is a more long term investment which doesn’t require you to pay money for each click onto your website. You could either hire a professional SEO company or attempt to produce the results through your own SEO campaign. SEO will take longer to see results, but in the long run will save you more money, as you will not be paying per click. Keep in mind with an SEO campaign it can take months to see results for a campaign, but if developed properly you can reap the benefits for years.

Choosing PPC over SEO

By using a pay per click campaign provider such as Google Adwords, your website ads will appear in the sponsored links. Developing a pay per click campaign will produce results for you much faster. You could see your ad on the first page of Google very quickly, even within a day or a few days. The disadvantage to this is you will spend more money. There is more risk involved because more money will need to be invested into a campaign like this (paying per click). You pay for each click to your website whether products/services are purchased or not. Traffic and keywords need to be managed because you need to see where your results are coming from and ensure you are not wasting clicks by targeting the wrong customers.

Choosing both SEO and PPC

If your budget allows, it is always recommended to invest in a pay per click campaign as well as an SEO campaign. Ideally, the best way to go about this and save money would be to develop both campaigns simultaneously and run a pay per click campaign until your SEO campaign begins to show results. If your SEO campaign is yielding enough results, it may be advantageous to shut down a pay per click campaign or scale it back to cut costs. The bottom line here is always the more aggressive your online marketing efforts are, the more results you will produce.

Which one should I choose?

Like we mentioned earlier, the answer is not so simple unfortunately as it all depends on your budget and how quickly you are looking to achieve sales and results. The more aggressive you are in your efforts, the more sales you will incur. A professional SEO company such as us will be able to give you proper consultation and guide you toward which technique to select for your business.
