Discovering Your Own Vocation
What is a vocation? Usually you will normally relate the word to priesthood or religious life. Vocation, however, can apply to different aspects of your life, especially when it comes to your career. Like a priest or a nun, it means it’s an occupation you’re willing to devote the rest of your life with.
It’s for this reason that people are finding it quite difficult to seek and stick to a possible vocation. Before they could even reap the full benefits of it, which is usually self-fulfillment, they are already backing out. How do you discover your vocation? How do you remain true to it?
Here are some pointers:
1. Meditate. It’s interesting how a 15-minute meditation can help you determine your exact vocation in life. But that’s true. Meditation is a process of clearing one’s mind from a lot of clutter. Thus, you can have more space for your real goals and objectives in life.
While you’re meditating, you can make use of subliminal messages. These subliminal messages can help you find the motivation and inspiration you need to start pursuing your life-term goals. Some of the subliminal messages you can use are:
I believe that I can reach the goals I want to achieve.
I am positive this is the path I have to take.
I will not allow stress and issues to affect me.
I am taking the path toward my destined vocation.
2. Visualize. Visualizing is basically like daydreaming, but there’s a stark difference. In visualization your goal is to have a clearer picture of things, such as your objective or vocation.
For example, if you’re trying to determine which should be your ultimate goal in life, picture yourself doing something that you really like. If you’re a musician, do you imagine yourself playing for a large crowd? Then describe what you feel. Keep in mind that vocation, unlike other phases of career, provides you the greatest self-satisfaction or fulfillment. Can you feel intense happiness? Do you think you can imagine yourself doing the same thing for the rest of your life?
3. Ask for tips. It’s definitely recommended that you ask people when you have no idea about your vocation. You can ask your friends and family members. Most of all, inquire from the experts. Going back to the example, ask those that have been in the business for several years. Determine if they discovered that it’s their calling. Understand the pains and motivation you need to have for you to stick to your vocation.
4. Prepare yourself. Finding the right vocation will take some time. In fact, it may even be years before you can realize it. Moreover, as you try to pursue it, you will meet a lot of challenges that will somehow make you apprehensive.
Be realistic on these possible issues and be ready. If you find yourself in a struggle, you can go back to the subliminal messages. You can repeat them as often as you can until they become your new belief system.
