The H. Upmann Sun Grown line of cigars is quite an attractive one. The band is large and very intricate with the year 1844 stamped on it, and the artwork is magnificent. There are hardly any veins on this cigar with the exception of a few larger ones that give the stick its attractiveness, opposed to presenting a problem.

This cigar is finely packed with no hard or soft spots. Pre light, the stick smells like a mixture of leather and coffee, and it is said that there is a hint of peppermint as well. The H. Upmann Sun Grown has a sweet aroma that is pleasant long before lighting it.

The cigar cuts smoothly and upon cold draw the cigar tastes earthy, with a nutty kick and a peppery finish. Many refer to the pre lit draw as sweet and woody. Once the cigar is lit there is an even burn with no need to touch up or relight this H Upmann cigar.

During the first third the H. Upmann Sun Grown matches the pre lit draw nicely, being delightfully earthy. The sweetness kicks in about midway through the first third. There is a distinct cedar flavor that begins to take over. There is a nice thick smoke presented with each draw. The smoke itself has an earthy tobacco and cedar smell.

The ash is tight, and the color of the ash is a light medium gray. During the second third the cedar flavor definitely takes over completely and the cigar becomes much creamier at this point. The complexity of the cigar starts to pick up about halfway through the second third. There begins to be a lingering leathery aftertaste that is very pleasant after each draw on the cigar.

The final third of the cigar finishes wonderfully. The tobacco flavor joins the cedar once again for a great earthy blend, leaving that creamy after taste with each draw still. A peppery spice comes to join upon the finish of the H. Upmann Sun Grown to make it quite a tasty cigar.

Overall this cigar is a highly recommendable one. It is a mellow smoke that would be perfect to smoke midday or while with a group of friends. The complexity of this cigar is on the low side, so one would not have to concentrate on it as much as some other cigars with a more complex flavor build.

There are six sizes in the line. They are the Churchill 7 X 54, Corona 5 1/2 X 44, Lancero 7 1/2 X 40, Short Churchill 4 1/2 X 54, Magnum 6 X 54, and the No. 2 6 1/8 X 52. The H. Upmann Sun Grown is a great cigar made with a broadleaf binder, and it is a stick that you can smoke with the utmost of ease, and many will find this to be just the cigar for them.

Midday cigars are a nice treat when you’re on a business trip or family vacation. So when this cigar catches your eye, grab one for your next daytime adventure.
