Subliminal Messages in the Movies
One of the foremost reasons why you should pay attention to the films you’re watching is there could be some subliminal movie messages you can catch.
These messages can be very obvious or extremely subtle only the most observant can determine them. Nevertheless, films implement them to pique the interest of the viewers. They may also have been included accidentally, which means the movie makers have no intention of “adding” them. But the human mind is extremely creative and perceptive.
The subliminal messages movies add spice, intrigue, and controversy, making these cinematic masterpieces more profitable and unforgettable.
Here are some examples:
The Rescuers
The Rescuers is a seventies’ Disney movie. It features the story of rats on a rescue mission. A very family-oriented movie, right? It was until viewers have seen that half-naked woman on the window at the far end of the screen. If you’re interested, you will see it in the sequence where characters Bernard and Bianca are on board an open can of sardines.
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Here’s another family-friendly movie. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is all about Quasimodo, a hunchback who lived in the tower of Notre Dame Church. He lived a very lonely life, ridiculed by many, until he saw Esmeralda, a gypsy who captured his heart. However, Quasimodo and Esmeralda aren’t the only major characters found in the movie. If you can focus your eyes on the panoramic view of Paris, you’ll find the other well-loved Disney characters, such as Belle of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Pumba.
Eyes Wide Shut
Eyes Wide Shut is perhaps one of Stanley Kubrick’s best works. It was also heavily favored by the staunchest critics, and though it was classified as an erotic thriller, many adored the strong chemistry and love story of the then-couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. But there’s a movie subliminal message-and it’s chilling. The soundtrack “Masked Ball” was played with Latin liturgy passages and in a scene that depicts a Satanic activity.
National Treasure
National Treasure is filled with subliminal messages, as the movie is generally about figuring out clues until they can discover the ultimate “treasure.” The subliminal messages are found in the treasure room and U.S. bill, among others.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
This movie sealed Audrey Hepburn’s title as the ultimate darling of Hollywood during her time. She was funny, lovely, vulnerable yet strong, and extremely coy in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. However, we’re not really going to talk about much about her. Instead, we’ll focus on one scene where she went into a small store and wore a Huckleberry Hound mask. Does it have something to do with her line “My huckleberry friend” in “Moon River”?
The Most Famous Car Plate
What do LA Story, Mulholland Drive, Beverly Hills Cop 2, and Traffic have in common? If you look closely, you’ll come across a car that shares the same plate number: 2GAT123.
Discovering the subliminal messages in movies is definitely an interesting thing to do and talk about among friends and family. But hopefully it doesn’t get in the way with enjoying the film as it is.
