The Vuvuzela is really a long plastic horn which is about 0.65 meters and it produces a loud monotone sound. There are many types of Vuvuzela’s out there which are made by many different manufacturers. They may produce different frequencies but this frequency depends on how you blow the instrument and the amount of pressure you exert when you are blowing it.

The instrument is traditionally made and it was inspired by a Kudu horn. In the past the Vuvuzela was used in Africa to bring together many villagers who lived far away so they could attend community meetings. Nowadays though, the Vuvuzela is used in many football matches in South Africa. It has actually come to symbolize South African football as it highlights the excitement of the fans inside the stadium. Even some of the soccer players at the FIFA World Cup were blowing them. Vuvuzela’s can even be seen in the hit TV show Jersey show where the Vuvuzela is referred to as a “grenade whistle”. After the World Cup in South Africa the instrument appeared in the Oxford Dictionary for the first time.

Vuvuzela’s are actually used in many different countries including those that are naturally football crazy such as Brazil and Argentina. There they are referred to as Cornetta. In the United States they may be referred to as stadium horns. But whatever you call them they are still tremendously cool.

Some people do not know exactly how to blow a vuvuzela properly. People may become reluctant to buy a vuvuzela if they do not know how to operate one but this should not stop you. You can watch a couple of youtube videos to see exactly how they are blown and there are a lot of videos out there on youtube where the vuvuzela is shown. Some may find a written explanation more helpful. So inorder to be able to blow the vuvuzela you require some lip flexibility and some lung strength. Be sure to get in some practice though before you go out with your Vuvuzela so you don’t cause any amusement from the people who are sitting next to you. So to get the vuvuzela sound you want you should put your lips inside the mouth piece and make a farting like sound. You must relax your cheeks and make your lips vibrate inside the mouth piece and enjoy.

The vuvuzela is one of the best ways to create an atmosphere at any sporting event or create an atmosphere anywhere for that matter.
