There are several different unethical SEO techniques that people or companies may use in order to optimize their website and gain higher search engine rankings. Advice? Don\’t do it. It might be tempting because black hat SEO techniques can \”trick\” the search engines, but you will be discovered. And once you are discovered, it is very difficult to win back the trust of the search engines. Not to mention your users will hate your website. Many times black hat SEO techniques also compromise the usability of a website and cause users to leave right away. This is what the search engines are trying to avoid. Below are a few unethical black hat SEO techniques which should be avoided. Any SEO company employing any of these techniques should be stayed away from.
Keyword Stuffing
Keyword stuffing is loading up a page with keywords, whether it is in the meta tags or within the content. Instead of the content flowing nicely and having an easy level of readability, webmasters will write content but stuff keywords within the content. Search engines, especially google, hate this because users do not want to see this. It completely ruins the readability of the site and it will make your site read like it was written by a 5 year old. If Google discovers any websites with pages employing the keyword stuffing technique of SEO, they will devalue the page altogether and it will sandboxed or lose whatever page rank it originally had.
Invisible Text
Invisible text can be looked at as another form of keyword stuffing. Instead, this black hat SEO technique is where somebody will hide keywords within the page. What does that mean? For example, if your website has a white background, a webmaster might try to put keywords in white text so it blends in with the background and the user does not notice it. Another black hat SEO technique that will eventually be picked up by the search engines and they will penalize you big time for it. This particular technique was popular several years ago when the search engines were not nearly as sophisticated as they are today.
Doorway pages
A doorway page is a page that is used for search engine indexing purposes and to increase search engine page rank. This page is created for search engines only and is not intended for users to see. Since the page is not intended for users, the search engines will view this as spam and another attempt to trick them. The search engines focus on the users and if your pages are not geared towards users, you will be devalued and devalued quickly.
Cloaking
Cloaking is a technical term to describe presenting a different version of a web page to users and search engines. It is very deceptive and if caught by the search engines, will get you banned immediately. There are several different methods of cloaking, some involving IP addresses and types of Javascript, all in the name of tricking users and search engines simultaneously.
