In addition to the platforms, workers are using harnesses that are connected to the platform rigging to prevent them from falling.

A couple of drawbacks to the platform system is loss of power and materials being spilled on the walk way. Due to the slippery materials, slip and fall accidents are quite regular and commonly lead to injury and sometimes death. In other cases the accidents occur from equipment failures such as faulty harnesses or anchor systems.

The tools used by cleaners in the early days were rags and towels, these items were used to clean and dry the surface. This method left streaks that could be seen when the sun shined through so new methods needed to be created. As time went on the methods improved and so did the tools which were used evolving into the squeegee style equipment used today. Along with squeegee equipment new brushes were implemented to help clean the surfaces.

The new types of equipment being implemented today are helping to reduce accidents and improve the overall results that come from window cleaning companies. Each company has its own way of doing things but all work together to provide safe environments for their workers. This is not a profession for everyone and should be thoroughly considered prior to signing on.
