Before landing a role whether in acting, modeling or even singing gigs, chances are you will have to attend an audition to get the role. An audition is like a job interview. You have to show your talents and allow the directors to pick the best for the part. Keeping some important tips in mind throughout the auditions can help your chances, and allow you to feel comfortable while trying out.
1. Before the audition, get your resume up to date. Fill in all necessary details that may help you in being hired. Ensure that you have recent headshots. They are most important in modeling auditions as they modeling industry primarily deals with looks. For acting auditions, you will need the headshots for the casting director\’s records. It also will come in handy in case you do not land that audition as they may come across it when they are looking to cast for a different role that may be better suited to you. Head shots can be expensive, but are worth it if you are serious about your acting or modeling career.
2. Be prepared before attending an audition. If you are an actor, ensure that you know your lines in and out. You should be able to show the emotion of the character and not have to use any papers to read lines from. If you are singer, you should also be flawless with your musical performance. You should choose a song you\’re comfortable with and can hit notes perfectly in. As a model, you should have practiced your walk and made sure that your looks are up to par before the audition.
3. You should be ready for anything once you are called in for your audition so make sure to always prepare and prep to ensure that nothing goes wrong or an audition is called at the last minute. The casting director is always right so listen to all their instructions and follow them as best as you can or better. The casting director may want you to improvise as an actor; you should never hesitate to do just what they tell you to do. Take all directions in stride. You should also be very pleasant and exude a lot of confidence. Remember that the casting crew is also human; you should tap into their humanity and try to make them like you. This will give them a reason to want to work with you. If you cannot get them into your character that you\’re playing, or move them with your looks or singing then you\’re not going to be able to get the part.
You should always ask why you were not chosen if you\’re not. This is to better yourself with future auditions. Remember that it might take more than one try to get a part so do not let rejection get you down. You should be resilient and bounce back up when needed. If you do not succeed at first, better your talents, and try again.
