Stop Snoring With These Simple Tricks
Snoring can be an incredibly obnoxious condition to have. While it may not be relevant to the person doing the actual snoring, those sleeping with them, or even in nearby rooms can be seriously affected by the noise. Most people don’t recognize it as a medical symptom, and instead think of it as an annoyance that they are forced to put up with. While light snoring is probably nothing to worry about, extremely loud and deep snoring should be checked out by a doctor, as there may be underlying causes that need to be fixed. Sometimes, snoring can be a symptom of something as serious as sleep apnea, so be sure to mention it at physicals. However, if your problem isn’t too bad, you may want to look into some of these more natural remedies before going to a doctor for advice, or potentially more invasive medicine.
Change Your Sleeping Position
Sometimes it’s just a case of sleeping in a way that is restricting your airways. If you can train your body to sleep on your side, which is the least restrictive position you can be in, your snoring might lessen or disappear completely. To make sure you stay on your side during your sleep in the beginning, try making a “tennis ball shirt” you can sleep in, where you attach a tennis ball to the neck of your shirt. If you roll onto your back in your sleep, it will be uncomfortable, and you’ll immediately roll onto your side. Before you know it, sleeping on your side will become second nature.
Lose Some Pounds
If you have some weight to lose, it could be that this is causing your snoring. When you sleep, especially on your back, those extra pounds press on and constrict your airways, potentially causing snoring. Try losing a little bit of the extra weight, and see what it does to your snoring. Not only could it help that, but you’ll feel better while you’re awake too!
Breathing Strips
Sometimes, something is simply constricting your nasal passages and causing you to snore. It could be that a cold inflamed them and they’re currently still swollen, it could simply be how your nose was made, or a myriad of other possibilities. Whatever the case, try out some of the breathing strips you can get in the medicinal section of any grocery store. They simply stick to your nose and attempt to pull apart and widen the nasal passages. They’re not uncomfortable, and they may end up curing your snoring.
Throat Sprays
If none of the above treatments work, you may want to consider some throat sprays that you can also get in your local grocery store. These are sprays that you spray directly onto the back of your throat that attempt to help out your snoring. You simply spray them in before you go to bed, and see if they help your problem at all.
If none of these remedies seem to work for you, then it may be time to ask a doctor if there is anything else you can try, or if they think your snoring problem may be worth investigating further.
