A home can be a safe haven for more than just the people who live there. Homes are also often the cozy abodes of termites, rat, squirrels, other rodents, roaches, mosquitoes, bees, wasps and other unwanted creatures. Some tips to keep a home free from the varmints that like to infest it can work in houses across the nation. Spring is the time for spring cleaning, a task that can heartily help secure a home against insects. Spring is the time to remove all spider webs from any crevice in the home and set out poison for pasts that awake in this warm and rainy season. Dust treatments are effective around access points near the attic, utility boxes and other areas where insects and pests can easily slink their way into the home. A more powerful chemical application should be applied around the home\’s foundation and landscaping structures. The home should be outfitted with strategically placed granular bait that repels or kills ants, crickets and roaches as another way to safeguard the home.

Summer comes with an increased insect population, a population that is hungry and very active. Once again, removing spider webs from all areas of the home is a help. Doing another dust treatment of pest entry points is a good idea, as well as treating sidewalks, landscaping structures and walkways. Poison is granules spread in mulch, gravel beds, bark and thick grass can also drastically reduce the insect population around the home and yard.

Fall is the time for to prepare for pests and insects that will want to enter the home during the winter\’s cold season. One more fall preventative measure is to caulk openings where insects and rodents could otherwise crawl in to the home. These include cracks, crevices, small openings in the foundation and any other areas that can grow to serve as an entry point.

Just because insects are less visible in the winter does not mean no measures need to be taken to protect the home against them. Wintertime is a fine time to check for and eradicate any critters that have found safe harbor in a home. Spider webs should once again be knocked down and wiped out. Dust treatments should be applied to the attic, basement areas and crawl spaces beneath the flooring and porches. Ants and roaches can thrive in wet areas inside the home, especially those pennies the bathroom and kitchen sinks. Winter is the time to set out bait stations to kill off these critters. Cracks, crevices, small openings along baseboards and other gaps in the home’s structure should be fortified with steel wool or other impenetrable material through which insects and critters cannot enter.
