The Perfect Mix

A lot of people think that gardens and pools just do not mix. This in any way and every way do not mix. This is not true. Gardens and pools do mix. In fact, they can be a great mix. You encase the total nature and outdoor experience with this complete and wonderful mix. Just try to picture it in your head for a minute. A rose bush, orchid walls and an assortment of trees beside your swimming pool. Ain\’t that just a beaut?

Quite surely, all the green thumbs out there will have a fit with this good news. The only question is how to successfully pull this one off. How do you merge two very different worlds? Here\’s how you do it.

1. First things first, you have to make sure that you have the land to plant on. If you have concrete or tile floors all over your pool, then there is a lot to be done. Get a friend or better yet, a tile contractor to help you remove the surface from the ground. This may take a day or two. If you really want a garden despite of this then you have to be patient. Work hard and you will surely arrive at the things that you want.

2. Take a sample of your soil and take it to your local gardening center. This will give you the advantage o know the quality of your soil. Of course, knowing the quality of our soil will enable you to identify the type of plants that you can put in your space.

3. Once you know what type of plants and flowers, do your best to stock on their seeds. Purchase the seeds that you need for your pool side garden.(Take in consideration the weather in your state or country. Consult with your local gardening center with this one. Be sure to be in the know about this.)

4. Stock up on quality fertilizer.

5. Clear your land of all weeds, debris and rocks. Also, if you notice that the ground is uneven, even it with a roller.

6. Water your land prior to planting. This will prepare your land for your seeds. Give it a little love honey. It will give love back to your plants. Do this a day before you plant.

7. Inject a healthy dose of quality fertilizer ground prior to planting. Be careful though not to over do it. Do not get too excited my dear. Just give it ample food. Also do this a day before you plant.

8. It is time to plant my friends. Plant your seeds and secure them by stacking up the soil. Remember to water them twice a day for the first 2 weeks. After that you can water them 3 times. 4 times if it is summer. Feed them with fertilizer once a day (preferably in the afternoon) for the first 2 weeks as well. On the 3rd week, apply fertilizer 2 times.

POOL + GARDEN POLICIES

1. Keep your garden at least 5 to 8 feet away from your pool. As we all know, trees, plants and flowers shed their leaves and petals. You do not want these things to float around your pool. Keep a healthy distance.

2. Opt to cover your pool on a daily basis. The key is to cover up your pool when it is not in use. Some animals and pets may be attracted because of your pool side garden. Keep your water safe by covering it day to day. (A retractable pool cover is best for this.)
