Procedure To Change Your Bathroom Floor Tiles

If your bathroom tiles has been there for several years and you are already bored with them plus the fact that you have extra budget to replace them, it’s time to plan their replacement. There are several designs of floor tiles in the market today and you can start selecting which designs you want to replace them. First you must choose a color or design that would match the existing wall tiles so as to preserve the aesthetics of your bathroom.

Most tiles for flooring are unglazed and skid free so that you must be sure what you are buying are for your floor and not wall. Before you start buying the tiles if you have already chosen the color or design for your replacement, prepare the tools that you would use if you will do it by yourself. The tools that you will need are cutters, tile nippers, grout, a big sponge, grout spacers and a notched trowel. There are tiles that need no spacer like the mosaic sheet tiles but normally you will need tile spacers to match your walls which are surely installed with tile spacers.

Before you start the process, you have to dismantle the old tiles which is quite a meticulous job to do. But before dismantling the old tiles, all the bathroom fixtures that would be affected in your replacement work like the water closet should be dismantled first to avoid accidents of breaking it as well as to facilitate also the finishing of tiles under it. While some tiles are easy to remove, there are few that would crack into several pieces before you can have a clean space on that tile. Once you have finished removing all the old tiles, clean the area from all debris of the old tiles and prepare the area for the new installation.

Compute the total area of the space you would be installing with new tiles and divide it with the area of the individual tiles you will install to get the total number of pieces you will need. However, you need to provide for an allowance of not less than 5% for provision for breakages and extra stock for future use.

It is possible that you need to buy sub-floor in the form of green board or cement board that would be screwed to the floor and it should be cleaned and leveled properly so that the water would flow normally to the floor drain as before.

As soon as you have bought the replacement new tiles, you can now start the work and start making a layout of the flooring by dividing the longest wall by 2 to get the middle center line and start on one side of the flooring. Your work should start at the center going or spreading the tiles going to the left and right side of the center line until you finished laying the tiles on both side ends of the walls. The cutting of tiles involved the last line on the 3 sides of the wall assuming that the starting wall is perfectly straight and no cutting of tiles is required. After a day apply the tile grout and a couple of day more your bathroom is ready for use again to enjoy the new tiles you have installed.
