Observing the Differences Between HD TV and LCD Televisions
Unlike a few years ago when the only option available to anyone who wanted to buy a new television was the size of the screen today there are a few different types of TVs available. Many people choose the clarity and enjoyment provided by a HD TV but you may not be aware of the fact that these TVs do not have to have an LCD panel.
HD Televisions
First of all an HD TV can be a plasma TV and they can boast a few features that you are not going to find in LCD TVs. However, with all things being equal there are also a number of disadvantages that should be remembered but let us take a look at a comparison of the two
* When it comes to brightness the Plasma TVs are usually far brighter than other types of TVs.
* Unlike an LCD screen a HD TV with a plasma screen is more able to show black areas.
* These TVs do not have internal speakers although they sometimes have an amplifier already installed. If you choose the plasma TV you will obviously have to connect it to your home theatre system. Because this is not much of a disadvantage many people to disregard it altogether.
* Because plasma TVs use transistor electrodes for each visible pixel you will be spared the annoying scan lines that result with LCD TVs. Thanks to this feature your viewing experience will be much more pleasant and the image will be much clearer and sharper.
* Plasma screens are also able to accept signals from most computer systems and work with many old formats. The plasma TV will have no problem decoding signals like NTSC, SECAM, BNC, RCA and PAL.
Another issue to bear in mind is that just because you have an HD TV is does not have to be a flat screen. Even CRT TVs that are capable of accepting the 1080p/l or 720p signals can render HD quality. Although these TVs are harder to come by due to the immense popularity of the LCD and Plasma screens they used to be easy to find.
LCD Televisions
Although different from the plasma screen the LCD TV can and does display HD signals. Many people find they prefer the LCD television when it comes to high definition viewing which also includes gaming. Unlike their plasma counterparts the LCD TVs do not suffer from the infamous burn-in problems and so are much more able to handle still images for a longer period. Despite the fact that the LCD TVs do not offer images as clear as that of the plasma TVs they are still a great choice when you are in the market for a new HD TV.
* In short a LCD TV makes use of technology that results in a black and colored image being filtered by a white light which results from a line of cold cathode fluorescent lamps situated at the rear of the screen. If you take a look through the back vents you are likely to be able to see them. A series of shutters open and close as needed in order to permit a certain amount of white light to shine through. Each shutter is fitted with a color filter that helps to remove all RGB from the light. It is because of this that an image is able to be maintained although this is a very simplistic explanation.
* All LCD TVs will have the recommended ports which include HDMI, VGA, Composite, Component, S-Video and audio out.
* Whereas not all LCD televisions have a USB port that enables it to read different media types some do come with this useful feature.
As the above has illustrated there are differences between a standard HD TV and LCD TVs. Depending upon your specific requirements you will be sure to find what you need.
