If you are living in a state where there is snow and cold during the winter, then it is an absolute must that you prepare your patio for the upcoming winter. If you have taken time to enhance the look of your outdoor space through decorating and designing, then the more you have to prepare it for the winter in order to protect your investment and not let your effort go to waste because of the harsh weather conditions. In this case, neglect will not only destroy your investment but it may also cause damages to your other property as well. Here are some ways that you can use to prepare your patio for the winter.

If you want to bring your plants indoor for the winter, then you need to be prepare them ahead of time. Check those plants that you bringing in for any insects or diseases. Bringing an insect or disease infested plant into your home will only infect other plants. Take note that there are other types of plant that could use some pruning before you bring them indoors.

Rid your patio and all of its furniture from dried leaves. Leaves have the tendency to leave stains to any surface whether it is wood or stone which can make them the surface look deteriorated. Thoroughly clean your patio from the leaves just before winter comes. This means you need to handpick those leaves that can\’t be removed by a rake or leaf blower.

Another concern for you when winter comes is your patio furniture such as your umbrellas and chaise lounges. If you plan on storing them away, then pick a good storage room with standard temperature such as a basement, garage or shed. But before you store them away, make sure that you thoroughly clean them first. But if storing them is not an option, you might want to invest in a furniture cover to protect them from the harsh elements and prevent aging. Fortunately, patio covers are easily available.

If you have some patio equipment or furniture that have rust spots, then you need to address that before it gets worst during the winter. To remove rust spots, use a metal brush together with an application of a rust dissolver. Apply a primer and paint if needed.

Weeds will thrive even in the winter so be sure that you thoroughly rid your patio with any sort of weed. Weeds can destroy your landscaping and your other efforts in gardening. Keep in mind that you will probably have to dig deep so you can completely uproot some of the tougher weeds.

Just follow these tips and your outdoor space should be well prepared for the winter. It is easy to forget and neglect the winter preparation for your outdoor space, but such mistake can really cost you.
