Building Your Own Home Bar

If you fancy yourself a fine host or hostess and love to entertain, one sure guest pleaser is a home bar. This can be built and installed in the room you use most for entertaining, including an outside patio or cabana for pool parties in warm weather.

Actually, you can build your bar to serve both indoor and outdoor entertainment purposes and for all rooms in your house. These portable bars are usually made from wood or bamboo. The bamboo is especially nice if an island style bar is what you have in mind. Another option is to add new counter in your entertainment room for use as a bar, an extra table, or many other purposes. This can be a versatile choice as well.

Bar glasses and tools can be stored in a cabinet underneath the bar along with the liquor so they will be out of the way when the bar is used for another purpose. This also secures these items from any curious children that may be around.

The very first concern in your bar building project is measurements. Of course you will measure it for the space in which it will spend most of its time, but also don\’t forget counter height measurements for bar stool sitting comfort and the height of the bar must allow for the bartender to comfortably stand, mix and serve.

There are some essential items that you will need for your bar. Bar stools of course, but also bar glasses for the various liquors you will serve, glasses for whiskey, highballs, martinis, red and white wine, beer, and mugs for those wintry drinks.

Also, bar accessories must not be forgotten. Tools such as bottle openers, wine cork pullers, cocktail shakers and stirs, ice and an ice bucket, bottle stoppers, straws and maybe even a small refrigerator.

In the refrigerator, you can also stock ice cream, milk and cream for those drinks requiring such ingredients. It is important too that your bar fits in with your lifestyle and the dcor of your home.

A great way of doing this is to treat your bar like a second kitchen. You can have a sink to wash up in, as well as snack dishes and such in the cupboards. If your bar is located closer to outside or on your enclosed patio, then you can also keep all your outdoor cushions there along with pool accessories and barbecue items.

The most difficult thing about successfully building your bar is to decide just what the ideal bar would be for your needs. Once you have envisioned this, you are on your way to determining its size, the look you want and where you want it placed, if permanent, or if a portable bar would suit you better. Now you can proceed with your home bar building and create a very pleasant place for your guests and family to congregate. Salud!

Be sure that if you are drinking you and your guests all have a safe ride home. Safety around alcohol is always paramount!
