The Fundementals of Blackjack Strategy

As with any game, online or otherwise, it is important to know the game first, including its rules and the odds before venturing into becoming an expert at it. Blackjack is one of those games that needs strategies and a little bit of cleverness to pull off. With different variations of blackjack available (Regular Blackjack, Spanish 21, Double Blackjack, Single Deck Blackjack and Blackjack Switch), it is essential that the right strategy be employed to maximize your odds of winning. So here now are some of the best blackjack strategies to help you in your game.

Blackjack is a game of strategy as players make a number of decisions at every hand-decisions that can spell the difference between winning and losing. Blackjack strategies can be broken down into basic and counting components. The basic strategy is all about the decisions a player makes to keep the house edge as low as possible. To do this, a player must come up with a mathematical chart that would indicate what moves would be best for any situation that might arise during the game. This said, it is also important to know several factors like the rules of the blackjack game that is being played, the score of hands, the dealer’s up card and whether the option to split/double is present.

Other factors would include the number of decks and the ability to surrender. But to engage in a winning blackjack game, you must: double down if you have a 10 or 11 and if the dealer’s up card is worth less than your hand. If all other hands are 11 or less, hit. If you have hard hands of 17 to 21, always stand. Stand if the dealer’s card is showing a 6 or lower with hard hands of 12 to 16, but hit if the dealer is showing a 7 or higher. Always hit with soft hands of 15 or lower. Always stand with soft hands of 19 or higher. Hit against a 7 or higher with soft hands of 16 to 18, and if the dealer is showing a 6 or lower, double down. If you can’t double down, do a hit instead. Always split 8s or aces but never split fours, fives or tens. With all other pairs, split if the dealer is showing a 6 or lower, otherwise play the hand according to the rules or your hand’s value. And lastly, never take insurance or “even money” on blackjacks as it is a sucker bet for the basic strategy player.

Another strategy, called Card Counting, works by tracking which cards have come out of the shoe. Tens and aces are the best cards for remaining in the deck and the low ones the worst. A card counter takes advantage of this face by wagering more money when the deck is rich in cards and good for his opponent.

If you’re new to the game of blackjack, the best strategy of all is to research for the best online blackjack strategies and to combine them with your own. It’s a pitting of the minds that will surely be an enjoyable first-time experience.
