Over the last several years you\’ve probably heard the term \”Man Cave\” being used more and more to describe an area of the house designated specifically for the male who lives in the house. This area could be an extra room or garage, or even the shed out back. This space is meant for the man to use as a refuge from his everyday life.

It could be an important ingredient in a marriage for a man to be able to escape the pressures from his wife, kids or just general tension of any kind. Getting away by himself to recharge is all that is needed. The place he chooses can be made to suit his own tastes, holding things that make him happy and bring him a measure of peace.

Long ago (and still today in some areas of the world) young boys lived with the women in the women\’s area until they reached puberty. Once a boy reached sexual maturity, he would undergo various forms of tests or rites of passage in order to earn his way into becoming a man deserving of being allowed into the men\’s area.

It may not be a welcome idea for a lot of wives these days, when their husbands decide that they want a space of their very own, away from her, but it\’s important for both men and women both to have their own separate spaces where they can relax and just enjoy themselves.

This is not to say that women are always excluded from these caves. It\’s just a space for the man to call his own, hang out with friends and do what he wants. If he makes a mess, its his to clean up. These rooms or area can be used specifically for parties, filled with all the latest high-tech electronics, games and sound systems, or it may be a simple room used for him to relax in.

There are some do it yourself shows that feature how to design your own cave. There are also shows that focus on displaying the amazing caves that other men have created for themselves and are enjoying now.

It may not make a bit of difference how all this started. The main thing is to be able to be alone with yourself for a time. If it cannot be at home, find another place that you can relax in and head out there. A creative man is said to have come up with a chair that wraps around you, and has music piped into it. Sit down in it, close your eyes and disappear into your favorite sounds

Even a man who has to pinch pennies to make it to the end of the month ahead of the zero balance in the checkbook can find a way to gather his thoughts and feelings in a little privacy. Maybe he could turn an extra bathroom, even, into a little piece of heavenly solitude with a bit of ingenuity. The \’seat\’ is there, now just make it comfortable.
