The Art of Acrosage Therapy

Acrosage which is also known as “inversion therapy” or “elevated yoga” uses a unique combination of five different acrobatic postures and massage therapy. This natural therapy targets the pressure points within the body of the patient thus activating the healing ability of the body.

First discovered and developed by former circus acrobat Benjamin Marantz more than 20 years ago, this technique is still being practiced and widely performed today. Marantz discovered that the body when positioned in an upside down posture will feel weightless and in return release tension and relax on its own. He explained that this is because the body of the patient carries no pressure at all, allowing the therapist to freely work on the client.

It is excellent in removing stress from the body through the process of inverting the client while spreading the body and conducting series of massage techniques. Shiatsu type massage techniques are then performed on the patient which treats neck and back pain as well as other conditions. It also works perfectly in providing improvements in the circulation of blood and oxygen within the body. Within several sessions of acrosage, the patient will notice the difference and improvement in his or her posture. This is due to the correction and proper alignment done on the spine of the patient while being inverted during the massage therapy session. The immunity of the client will also drastically improve as a result of the various benefits done within the human body. In addition to those benefits, the skin will have a fairer glow and is healthier than before as the body releases toxins and detoxifies with regular sessions of acrosage therapy.

This form of massage therapy is beneficial for both the client and the massage therapy as the two assumes different yoga postures. These postures allow the muscles to work and stretch properly which benefits both individuals by strengthening them. However, this type of therapy is quite physical as compared to the other forms of massage therapy. Although lifting the patient doesn’t require the therapist to be strong enough instead to know how to properly balance the client’s weight, the task can still be taxing in the long run. This is why acrosage practitioners should pass the education approved by the Yoga Alliance or the International Yoga Federation or IYF.

Keep in mind though that aside from all its benefits, it has its own negative effects. Although this type of therapy is completely safe, accidents are sometimes encountered although these are rare cases. Most of these accidents results in minor injuries and sometimes doesn’t hurt the patient at all although this may decrease the level of confidence of the patient on his or her therapist. The medical backgrounds of the clients are also checked prior to massage therapy sessions to avoid having individuals with eye or cardiovascular problems as patients. Acrosage massage therapy may be a safe and natural method of treating people with certain medical conditions; however its style makes it a type of therapy that is not suitable for everyone.
