Choosing The Right Binocular
The word bin-ocular means that the instrument consists of mirrors that are placed side by side and they are identical. Binoculars help you to see far away objects with ease and with precision. Most of the models available in the market these days are smaller in size when compared to their monocular versions and hence this makes it easy for the person to handle. Apart from this, since both the eyes are used to view the objects, even the three dimensional ones can be viewed in depth.
There is wide range of binoculars available in the market and they definitely vary in the features and thereby the price also. Hence it is very important for the individual to choose the right kind of binocular at the right price.
The first factor that you have to consider while purchasing a pair of binoculars is the cost that you are willing to incur. The cost normally depends on the features that the model provides you with. The prices vary from fifteen dollars to thousands of rupees each. Also, it is recommended that if you are a beginner in using the instrument then purchase one that is of a lower cost. As and when the quality of the model or the binocular goes up, the cost of the instrument might also increase drastically.
Another very important feature of the binoculars is the magnification or the power and it is determined by number with precision. For example in the model designation (10 x 50), the power of the instrument is 10 and it is the ability of projecting the image ten times closer than the original object. In general, if you are an amateur in using the binocular, then the power of 10 is good.
The second number in the model designation, 50, is the objective lens size. It is the diameter of the large lens or the objective and it is measured in millimetres. This number tells you the amount of light that is gathered by the binoculars. The brightness of the image depends on the amount of light gathered, the greater the amount of light, brighter the image. As the image is brighter, it can also be seen properly in bad light conditions. If you are new to the world of binoculars, then you can choose to buy an instrument with a lens diameter between 35mm to 50mm.
Before buying a pair of binoculars you should also decide if you want to buy a large one or smaller ones. The large binoculars have to be carried around the neck or the shoulder to make sure they are maintained well. They usually have objective lenses that are large and high powers. The smaller binoculars can be fit into the pocket and the biggest advantage is that their objective lens does not have a size more than 35mm. As they have small barrel size, the size of the lens is usually 25mm and it is highly recommended.
These are some of the main factors that have to be considered before investing in a binocular. You can choose to buy these binoculars from any of the stores across the country or from various sites online.
