10 Tips For Cleaning Your Cell Phone

Needs and wants dictate us to use our cell phones every day. Whether we are at home, at school, at work, riding in the bus, walking or just standing by, we often find ourselves clasping phones in our hands. With this apparent frequent use of mobile phones, has it come across your mind on how dirty your phones can get without really looking as such?

You might not fairly notice the dirt now with your naked eyes but reality strikes back, telling you that your phone is already years dirty-and yes, it needs serious proper cleaning. So, what does it take to clean your phones Here are 10 easy steps as your guide:

1. First, wet a cloth with rubbing alcohol.

Slightly wet a disinfectant wipe or cloth with rubbing alcohol. Try to use a clean and lightweight cloth that won’t leave behind little bits of hair. As much as possible, avoid using a rag that is often exposed to basic chemicals like bleach.

2. Clean the face of your phone with the wet cloth.

Hold your phone open if necessary and clean its face using a dampened cloth. Please be reminded to diligently remove all sweat and make-up dirt found on the face of your phone since this is the part that touches your face often and where all of your sweat dries onto.

3. Wipe the outer shell of your phone with another cloth.

Wipe the outer shell with a second disinfectant wipe or soft cloth which is still moistened with alcohol.

4. Wipe along your phone using a dampened cotton swab or a soft-bristled brush.

Pour a small amount of alcohol into a small dish, bowl or cup. Get a cotton swab or a soft-bristled brush and dip it into the alcohol. Afterwards, squeeze or shake it to remove any excess liquid. Wipe along your phone and rub in between keys and tighter areas to gently remove any dirt that cannot be reached by the soft cloth but where germs are residing.

5. Clean the keypads with a brush.

Clean the keypads using a soft-bristled brush, a toothbrush for example. Gently brush and clean out dust. Follow up with canned air to clean away remaining dirt. If your phone is very dirty because it was dropped in mud for example, clean the keypad and crevices with wipes which are made especially for electronics. Do not be convinced to use anything on hand. If possible, take the time to buy the proper cleaning tools and do it right. To gently scrape the dirt from the crevices of your phone, you can use a hard plastic dental pick. Afterwards, follow up with wipes until the phone buttons are clean. In any case, don’t clean the inside of the battery case with water or any type of liquid. This contains a special colour indicator that will void the warranty if it becomes wet.

6. Clean the screen with a cloth.

Clean the screen with a cloth typically used to clean eyeglasses. Wet it very slightly with clear water and gently wipe away dirt and make-up residue and oil from the skin. Do not be tempted to wipe the screen with a chemical product or with a shirt’s hem because these can cause permanent damage. Shirt material can be rough and can scratch the screen. Also, some phones have an invisible layer of screen protection and when chemical products are used to clean it, it can dissolve and come off. This film helps prevent surface scratches, smudges and smears.

7. For older phones, wipe using a cloth sprayed with window cleaner.

If your phone is an old type and it still has a plastic casing around the numbers, wipe it with a cloth sprayed with window cleaner. However, do not spray the window cleaner or any other liquid directly on your phone.

8. Clean around the charger connection.

Gently clean around your phone’s charger connection by using a very slightly wet cotton swab. After cleaning, you will be amazed with how much dirt accumulates around this area.

9. Dry your phone thoroughly.

After thorough cleaning, you can now dry your phone and presto, it will now be ready for use!

10. Purchase a professional cleaning kit if necessary.

If needed, buy a cleaning kit that is especially made for cell phones. In case the alcohol and cotton swabs won’t work, your cell phone manual must have cleaning suggestions.

Since mobile phones are now becoming a daily part in our lives, we must seek ways on how best to utilize them by not forgetting to clean them in the first place. There may be other ways to make your precious phones dirt-free but the above are the most inexpensive tips which have long been tried and tested by experts themselves.
