Many companies these days will want to buy in huge bulk, maybe from outside the country, but when the goods arrive, finding someplace to store their products is very difficult indeed. If they have their own buildings, this is ok, but these buildings are expensive to run and they may be empty for most of the year. If the buying company is buying in from other countries, they may well have to order goods by the container load. This may then give them a logistics problem since they may already have enough stock in their own storage facilities. This is the time when these third-party companies are needed since the goods have to be stored somewhere as soon as they come out of the port, or they arrive on site.

These third-party companies have much to offer though, not just an empty space to stick the goods in. Indeed, such is there service that the buyer may never set eyes on the goods at all. When they arrive there, they will be disgorged from the containers and stacked inside. From here, and on instructions from the buyer, the goods will be taken from their packing cases and examined to ensure that all is well, and then they may be repackaged in whatever way necessary for onward transporting to the wholesalers or retailers, depending on what quantities are being ordered.

These third-party companies usually have depots across the country where parts of the load are sent to so that distribution to retailers is made easier. However, before this occurs though, the goods may well have to be put in advertising sleeves, supplied by third-party companies, so that they can go directly onto shelves when they get to the stores. This kind of service makes life so much easier for the buyer since all he has to do is order the goods and then direct where they will be going to, and when of course. Any costs incurred at this stage will be absorbed by the price of the goods to the consumer so everyone will definitely benefit from the economies of scale that the buyer is awarded when he buys in such bulk.

Many of these facilities will also have refrigeration facilities too which means that buyers can buy in fresh produce or frozen goods and be assured that everything will stay as fresh as possible. The third-party company can also supply specialist waxed cartons too, if necessary, so that juices do not drip out of the meat or poultry products being carried. Without companies like this, our supply chains would be nonexistent and we would have to wait for inordinate amounts of time for goods to be in stock too!
