Inexpensive Green Living – Lifestyle Alteration Tips
By making some little Eco friendly adjustments in your lifestyle, means that you can save a little and still stay green
Stop Your Energy Wasting Habits!
Too much energy is wasted every year and this badly affects the environment and keeps your home energy bills high. Switching off lights and home appliances when you’re not using them is fairly obvious advice but it\’s the most unheeded.
Make sure to unplug certain energy guzzlers or use a Smart strip which is a power strip that stops the flow of electricity to your appliances when they’re turned off.
The reason for this is that when some devices are left plugged in, they tend to use up energy as standby power. 5-10 percent of the average E.U. household’s electricity bill comes from this standby energy which is just not acceptable. Don\’t waste energy – Properly insulate your home to minimise waste and make sure that the energy you use to heat your home stays inside and not fly outside.
Ditch the Car and Walk!
The price of petrol and energy is always going to escalate at a very high rate. This affects environmental issues and you can slow down or stop using this expensive way to travel by cutting down on your car usage by cycling to work, walking to the local shops, or using public transport like the bus or train instead as it will reduce both your spending and energy waste. How much you’ll actually save really depends on what type of car you drive and where you reside, but your wallet or purse will be grateful. Walking or cycling instead of motoring is also good for you in keeping fit, which makes it easier for you to relax at home.
Grow Your Own!
Organic and locally grown produce we are told is better for the environment than the chemical laden offerings at your local supermarket. Yes we also know that it is more expensive too but there’s a simple and easy way to eat fresh and lower priced fruits and vegetables by growing your own produce.
Beginning your vegetable garden can come with some costs attached, but starting small and staying to the various easy to grow basics can help you save money and eat healthier. You can also compost your leftover food scraps to give your plants the nutrients they require to grow and there are lots of sources to make gardening easier for the beginner.
Recycle – Don\’t Buy!
In a consumer driven throw away society, we often get rid of things before they break or we don’t re-use products that can be turned into something else that is just as useful. Recycling can save money and obviously reduce landfill waste. For example think about the many household appliances that are just thrown out because we see a newer shinier and more appealing product, that will cost us money and add to the increasing piles of rubbish in our landfill sites.
One good example of this type of disposable society is the vacuum cleaner market. Millions of perfectly good vacuums are thrown away every year to make way for a more elegant looking model, when there is absolutely nothing wrong with the one you have already.
Vacuum cleaners are one of the most difficult to recycle products in our home. This is because there are so many components to consider as it\’s a mixture of plastics, paper, rubber and several types of metal which make up 1 vacuum cleaner. If it can be fixed – fix it!
