Different Types of Roll Up Doors

When it comes to deciding what kind of garage-type door you are going to use for any of your steel buildings, a roll up door should be at the top of your list. As the name implies, these are the kind of doors that roll upward when they are opened. These types of doors have many different uses in many different sectors. Some people use them as garage doors or for storage sheds or other smaller buildings on their property. However, many businesses also use these types of doors when they have areas within their building that needs more access than a standard door can provide them with.

The best examples of these are likely to be seen at the place where you get the oil from your car or other businesses that do a lot of work on cars. Other businesses may use these types of doors so that the delivery trucks can unload their merchandise inside the building instead of having to battle the elements. There are generally considered to be two different types of roll up doors. Most people are more aware of sectional doors. These are similar to most garage doors in that they have four separate horizontal panels. These are attached together, but at the point of attachment, the doors can bend. This allows each panel to roll upward until it eventually takes its place parallel to the ceiling.

The other type of door is a true roll up. The horizontal panels for these types of doors may be less than an inch high. When these doors are raised, instead of maintaining its original shape, (although in a different position than the garage-type doors), these doors actually roll up. It ends up looking like a rolled up towel or rug and it sits just above the opening of the door. These are particularly useful when you do not want to full view of the garage door when it is in the up position.

Many different types of materials can be used to construct these doors. Although, steel is clearly the strongest, you can also find doors made of fiberglass, aluminum or wood. The material you choose for your door depends largely upon how you use the structure and how much security you are looking for. If you are just looking for a door for your shed, you likely do not need the strength of steel. However, if it is a door for your business, you probably want the added security that it provides.

When you are looking into the cost of a door, make sure you do not just look at the initial price tag. If you choose to use one of the metals for your door, you likely would not have to worry very much about additional maintenance costs. However, if you choose wood, you likely will have additional costs. Over time, it is likely that the wood door will warp and even crack due to the weather conditions. You will have to either replace the door or continue to perform maintenance in order to keep the door looking good.
