Pink Floyd Remastered Box Sets in 2011 and 2012

2011 and 2012 are shaping up to be banner years for Pink Floyd fans because of the release of four different remastered box sets from the legendary psychedelic rock band.

On September 27th of 2011 there will be two different box sets released; the Discovery box set which features remastered CD versions of all 14 of the band\’s studio albums from 1967 through 1994 (which makes a total of 16 discs because of two double albums) and the \”Immersion\” box set for The Dark Side of the Moon from 1973.

The Discovery box set is aimed at all serious Floyd fans who want to have the band\’s entire discography with the newly digitally remastered sound. Each of these remastered albums will also be available to purchase individually but the box set includes some cool extras that can\’t be purchased separately such as the 60 page artwork booklet by Storm Thorgerson.

Plus any real Floyd fan is going to want the band\’s entire discography, not just a few albums here and there. Casual fans may only want to pick up The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall but obviously this box set isn\’t aimed at those types of fans.

The Dark Side of the Moon Immersion box set is aimed at the real hard core fans who want to go deeper into the band than just hearing the studio albums themselves. It includes a total of six discs (3 CDs, 2 DVDs, and 1 BluRay.) Among these discs is a remastered CD version of the album (the same one included in the Discovery box set), a CD of a live version of the entire album performed in London in 1974, a DVD including various mixes of the album, a DVD with live films and concert screen films, a BluRay version of that same material, and a CD featuring alternate takes, demos, and additional live performances.

Along with all of that the Immersion box set also includes some collectible fun stuff like a 40 page booklet, a photo book, an art print, collectors cards, a scarf (no kidding!), black marbles, 9 coasters, and more.

On November 8th the Wish You Were Here Immersion box set will be released. Wish You Were Here was released in 1975 and was the follow-up to The Dark Side of the Moon. While it has not been quite as commercially successful, it\’s still a definite high point in Pink Floyd\’s career. Certainly there are many Floyd fans who would say this is their favorite album of all. For fans who love this album, the Immersion box set version of it is a \”must have.\” It includes five discs including previously unreleased live recordings, alternate takes, and demos.

Finally on February 28th of 2012 the Immersion box set version of Pink Floyd\’s 1979 double album masterpiece The Wall will be released. It includes a total of 7 discs of digitally remastered material. For many Floyd fans The Wall is their greatest work and it certainly features some of their most well known songs like \”Comfortably Numb,\” \”Hey You,\” and \”Another Brick in the Wall.\”
