The City of Mississauga is located in the State of Ontario, Canada. Its area is encompassed by an irregular pentagon drawn between Brampton to the north and, moving clockwise, Toronto, Lake Ontario, Milton to the west and Halton Hills. Toronto Pearson International Airport lies on the northwest side of the pentagon. Most Mississauga hotels are clustered around the airport.

During the years 1986 to 1991, the city exhibited the largest rate of population growth in Canada. Initially developed as a suburb of Toronto, the city is acquiring a character of its own and is not considered to be a \’bedroom community\’. While the city has been free from debt since 1978, it may need to borrow money to complete new capital projects planned for 2012.

Absolute World is a twin tower residential condominium forming part of a five tower development. The first three towers, Absolute City Centre 1 and 2 and Absolute Vision, have been completed. At 50 and 56 storeys, Absolute World 4 and 5, currently still under construction, are expected to become the tallest in North America. The south tower has a 209 degree twist and has been nicknamed, \’Marilyn Monroe\’ because the variation of the rotation in the floor plates give the structure a feminine shape.

The city itself bears the nicknames, \’Sauga\’ and \’Home of Hurricane Hazel\’. Hazel was a Category 4 storm in October 1954 that originated off the coast of Africa and travelled up the eastern seaboard of the United States through the Carolinas, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. Quite remarkably, it veered into the Greater Toronto area where it caused 1.1 million dollars and took the lives of 81 people.

Since 2005, Mississauga has hosted a multi-disciplinary South Asian arts festival called, \’Mosaic\’. The event is completely free and attracts 50,000 people over three days. It is presented by the Canadian Community Arts Initiative. The city is also home to Carassauga, a cultural festival held each year to celebrate the area\’s diverse population.

Other attractions in the city include the Adamson Estate, purchased by the city from the family of Agar Adamson in 1974 and occupied now by the Royal Conservatory of Music. Benares Historic House is owned and operated by the city\’s Community Services Department. Part of the Museums of Mississauga, it represents life in the city in the early twentieth century. The Bradley Museum, also part of the Museums of Mississauga, comprises a trio of buildings. The Anchorage is an Ontario Regency style cottage that was once the retirement home of Royal Navy officer John Skynner.

Bradley House, a small \’saltbox style\’ farmhouse was built by Lewis and Elizabeth Bradley in 1830. The term, \’saltbox\’, refers to the resemblance to wooden lidded boxes in which salt was kept. The style is distinguished by the asymmetry of its unequal sides and the long, low line of the rear roof. Bradley House opened to the public in 1967.

The award-winning Log Cabin was added to the site in 2007. Originally planned for destruction, it now hosts year round educational programs, receptions, meetings and sleepovers for children\’s community groups.
