What to Expect From Rolfing Therapy

Rolfing is one of the oldest forms of massage technique used on almost all of the massage therapies used in treating various conditions, especially deep tissue issues. Complete body relaxation due to the release of tensed muscle tissues, repair of tissues and the treatment of fascial problems. Although this therapy benefits mostly the athletes and active group of the community, anyone who wishes to improve his or her health especially the muscle tissues are welcome to try this luxurious element of massage therapy.

A massage session which involves the use of rolfing includes the palpation process or also known as the evaluation stage done by the massage therapist on the client’s body to search for dysfunctions in the tissue and problems that resulted or may result to muscle pain. This type of procedure is common on many types of therapeutic massage as a way for the therapist to know and measure the condition of the patient. It is also beneficial to the client as well as he or she will share the knowledge on what needs to be treated and the progress being received after each session.

In each session, the client can expect significant changes and improvements on his or her physical health in addition to the overall relaxing experience from the massage therapy. The skipping of sessions can bring a huge impact on the treatment and the patient’s recovery. Here are the improvements with the number of sessions taken by the patient:

Sessions 1 to 3 – the massage therapist’s goal during these sessions is to focus on the manual releasing of the connective tissue in the various areas of the body. Proper alignment and repositioning on the vital areas of the body are also conducted to promote total healing treatment.

Sessions 4 to 7 – the therapist now refocuses his work on the core of the body by conducting deep therapeutic massage from the bottom of the pelvic to the top of the patient’s head.

Sessions 8 to 10 – physical balancing to the body or body alignment is achieved during this stage of the therapy sessions. This is the sealing sessions of the ten series.

Sessions usually ends in ten that’s why it is known as ten series. Ida Pauline Rolf pointed out that a patient only needs to finish the ten sessions in order to achieve complete healing of his or her conditions.

The patient can expect slight pain during the therapy session due to the fact that this technique is used on the deep muscle tissues of the body as well as the connective tissues. This is normal with all the deep therapeutic massage due to the technique used in correcting the problems and dysfunction of the parts of the body. There’s no need to worry though as this technique is quite safe especially if the patient has done all the precautionary measure prior to having a massage therapy that involves rolfing. Among the safety measures are the hiring of highly trained and certified massage therapist, consultation with a doctor, checking for risks and contraindications, and the proper preparations made before indulging in this form of deep therapeutic massage.
