Rocky Patel Bros Super Toro Cigar Review

Cigar: 6″ x 58 Super Toro Origin: Honduras

Wrapper: Pennsylvania Broadleaf Maduro Strength: Full

Binder: Nicaragua Filler: Nicaragua

For the first time, Rocky Patel and his brother, Nish, have come together in a joint effort to create a bold and powerful cigar, appropriately named Rocky Patel Bros. According to Rocky Patel, they both searched for years with one goal in mind and that was to find the perfect wrapper with a leaf that was “robust and unique”. Rocky Patel Bros. finally came to fruition after they decided on using a wonderfully dark and oily Pennsylvanian Broadleaf wrapper grown in the lush fields of Lancaster. This is such a rich and powerful full-bodied cigar. It has been compared in taste to the Rocky Patel Winter Collection of 2008, but according to Rocky, he aged this wrapper longer to smooth out the rough edges of the strength, and then added a bit more ligero than its Winter Collection cousin.

Rocky Patel Bros. Super Toro Review

This is a nice looking cigar. The Maduro wrapper is dark and toothy and absent of any large veins. It looks seamless and firm and is beautifully constructed. It has a very nice looking band that features gold lettering on a black and white background. There are zero soft spots as you roll it between your fingers. This is a solid and heavy stick.

At prelight of the 6″ x 58 Super Toro, intense aromas of sweet chocolate and espresso fill the nose. The cap is well constructed and clips great. The cold draw reveals some wonderful spice, leaving sweetness on the lips. When lit, this cigar is immediately pleasing, with flavors of coffee, cocoa bean, and black pepper that hit right from the start. You can definitely tell this smoke is full-bodied after just a few puffs, but it doesn’t seem to be overpowering. Pleasing notes of toasted wood accompany the flavors of the first third as well.

Halfway through the smoke, notes of pepper seem to still be prevalent on the back of the palate, and it has a bit of a chalky profile. A roasted almond taste comes to the forefront, with mocha notes and leather. The combination of roasted almonds and leather may be the reason one review described this cigar as having a “salty, meaty flavor”.

There are no signs of this smoke being harsh in anyway and the draw throughout is nice and clear and the ash holds decently. The burn can get a little wobbly, but it corrects its self. The final third is where the spices kick up again, accompanied by a touch of leather. It has a nice spicy, leathery finish. Lighting up this stick make cigar smoking a real pleasure.

Rocky Patel Bros. cigar is a chewy, rich smoke that is enjoyed by experienced smokers who like a spicy cigar. These cigars come in four vitola: Robusto (5 x 50), Torpedo (6.25 x 52), Toro (6.5 x 52), and Super Toro (6 x 58). They seem to have mixed reviews in the cigar circles, but they are definitely worth picking up to see for yourself.
