The Peachtree Village International Film Festival to Be Held in August
The Peachtree Village International Film Festival, the largest African American film festival in the United State’s southeast, will be held at the W-Hotel in midtown Atlanta from August 18 to 21, 2011.
The said film festival will be showcasing film screenings and holding special events at the W-Hotel, Woodruff Arts Center, and Atlanta’s Mosaic Studios. Aside from having aesthetically pleasing architectural designs, all three venues have are spacious enough to accommodate large crowds, making them very suitable venues for the film festival.
During the opening night of the festival, there will be a special VIP screening of the drama, “Things Fall Apart”, starring Curtis James Jackson, also known as 50 Cent, and critically acclaimed character actor, Ray Liotta. This drama about a promising football running back during his senior year has caught the attention of the media due in part to the fact that 50 Cent had to drop approximately 54 pounds for his starring role in the film.
Aside from “Things Fall Apart”, there will be special screenings of urban classics, “Jungle Fever” and “New Jack City”, both of which will be celebrating their 20th anniversaries this year. “Jungle Fever” is the iconic film directed by Spike Lee starring Wesley Snipes and Annabella Sciorra, about an African American man who has an affair with a Caucasian woman. “New Jack City” on the other hand, which was directed by Mario Van Peebles is about the drug trade in New York City during the 90’s.
In addition to showcasing feature length films, shorts, documentaries, and even music videos, the Peachtree Village International Film Festival will also conduct filmmaking workshops, parties, and celebrity attractions all throughout its three day event.
Speaking of celebrity attractions, this year, the Peachtree Village International Film Festival will be inviting a number of exciting celebrity guests, including talented producer, Aaron Kaplan, the head of Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment. Throughout the duration of his career, Kaplan has packaged and sold a number of his shows which include “The Office” and “Project Runway”.
Like most movie festivals, Peachtree Village will also be giving talented amateur filmmakers the opportunity to send in their entries. Those interested can send their films, music video, or screenplay to www.withoutabox.com. All genres will be reviewed and showcased. Moreover, all submitted films must not contain pornography of any kind.
According to the new Peachtree Village International Film Festival Ambassador, Erica Hubbard, the festival is an integral part of the entertainment community as it is a platform where people can gain knowledge about filmmaking. Hubbard is a respected Hollywood actress known for her roles in “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” and “Akeela & the Bee”.
The Peachtree Village International Film Festival is held annually in the home of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, Atlanta, Georgia. It was created in 2006, under its former name, Sweet Auburn International Film Festival, in order to serve as a launching pad for talented filmmakers and artists to make a name in the entertainment industry.
