Bed Bugs Can Be Hard to Get Rid Of
We all pride ourselves on keeping our houses pristine and free from any crawling and biting creatures these days. After all, there is no need for us to suffer the consequences of any kind of infestation any more. But there is a problem with bed bugs these days and, if the news is anything to go by, the population has exploded and is spreading fast. Bed bug treatment cannot really be done by the householder since these creatures are clever little things, and the hiding places that they find are often out of reach for us.
The first thing one should say about this pest is that it does not mean the household is dirty if they are found. They used to be associated with down and out people and ‘flop’ houses in decades past, but most of them these days come from some very respectable addresses.
With the advent of cheaper travel, and our need to move around with whatever job we are employed at, more people are now staying in hotels across the country. It is from here that the outbreak is suspected to be coming from since those who stay there will take some home in their suitcases. Hotels in general, provide the perfect breeding ground for these little mites because there will always be a ready food source for them. The bed linen is changed every day, of course, but what about the cracks and crevices where these creatures lay their eggs? It is the virtual speed of the turn around of guests that really allow these critters to blossom since many people will not complain that they have been bitten so the hotel will not know of the growing problem.
Once a few of them are picked up in clothing or in cases, they travel to all corners of the country and set up residence wherever they find themselves. The first thing that most of us do is to put the suitcase in the bedroom when we get home. This is a huge mistake since this is where they will find their next food source and, once they start to breed, they are horrendous little creatures which are hard to be rid of.
They bite us just before dawn and this is why we will have a disturbed sleep. They need the blood to trigger the egg laying process. If they do not get a good bite at us, they can actually go a full five months without eating and it is this little fact that makes them tough to finish them off. If it is suspected that these are in the house, probably the best thing to do is to call in an exterminator who will have the right chemicals to kill them off. He will also know where they are likely to hide out too and he will spray or drip chemicals into all the cracks and crevices where these creatures will crawl into. He may have to come back more than once so be prepared for an ongoing battle!
