History of Continuum Movement
Continuum movement is a therapy that is focused in addressing healing to the body, mind, and spirit of the patient. The therapy is based on the idea that the body is filled with fluid such as the blood, lymph, and sweat. The therapy is considered as a type of somatic treatment which targets healing in a much different level as compared to the conventional types of therapeutic massages.
The therapy uses dance like movements that engages all areas of the body which allows the release of tensions on the affected regions. Aside from the movement techniques, Continuum movement also includes breathing, sound, and visual methods that are equally important in providing relief from all sorts of body condition as well as improvements in the emotional and mental health.
This unique yet impressive treatment was created in 1974 by Emily Conrad who was a dancer at that time. The development of the technique was due to her love and passion for dancing which is very much included in the therapy. Aside from dancing, she loved movement and was fascinated on how every living things move in similarities with each other to achieve something of their desire or purpose. Her interest in motion especially movement with life led her to create the wonderful therapy which focuses on the education of how people should move in a beneficial way.
Eventually in the year 1974, she was able to complete her research and put all the gathered information through observation and experiments into her ultimate movement technique which she called Continuum movement. Nowadays it is offered on many health institutions, public spas and other health care centers. This type of alternative medical care can be quite relaxing yet exhausting at the same time as it uses strength, focus, and stamina in order to get from one position to the other.
Emily Conrad’s technique is being used today to treat various conditions and also acts as a strengthening method which can increase flexibility and mobility in the muscle tissues, joints, and ligaments of the body.
