La Flor Dominicana Carajos, released in 2008, are a new size in the LFD Cabinet Oscuro natural series which are one of the finest Dominican Republic cigars made. At just 4 inches in length, La Flor Dominicana Carajos pack a punch! These cigarillos have been described as “flavor bombs”, having intense bursts of flavor packed in a short smoke. Their dark, oily wrapper has gained popularity only in the last ten years. The Oscuro wrappers are most often Brazilian or Mexican in nature and are less common than its natural, and maduro counterparts.
La Flor Dominicana has gained a high recognition over the years since Litto Gomez and his wife Ines started on the scene during 1990’s cigar boom. This husband and wife team had a very clear vision from the very start in that they wanted to learn about the business and about cigars. So, rather than copying from the behavior of newcomers like themselves, they chose to take it slow and learn from the wisest in the industry. Through this approach, they were able to gain the respect among industry veterans as well as in the market place. Litto still takes his time with production, never worrying about profit in numbers. His concern is about quality and building long-lasting relationships with his consumers.
You will not find the La Flor Dominicana Carajos in just any cigar shop because Litto only sends his merchandise to tobacconist that share his long term vision. He protects the reputation of his brand, and that is why LFD has gained affection among cigar lovers all over the world. There is a cigar for every mood and every pallet. This one is particularly good if you are in the mood for a really spicy, hit of flavor, but only have 30 minutes to smoke. The Gomez portfolio ranges from the mild to the very full-bodied smoke. This little baby is full and has been getting some positive reviews.
La Flor Dominicana Carajos are neatly enclosed in packs of 6. Their cool Spanish cedar flip top case is worth noting. The pre-light draw has been described as being just firm enough to give resistance. The wrapper is extremely dark and oily and smells great out of the box. Upon lighting, a heavy, earthy taste appears with a good hit of spice through the nose. Coffee and chocolate seem to play a consistent role throughout the entirety of the smoke, but other flavors are much more noticeable. Flavors of vanilla and notes of milky cinnamon show after about 10 minutes. The last 15 minutes you get reintroduced to the wonderful spice, with the milky, vanilla flavor being less prominent. The construction is good and puts out tons of good smoke. The burn can be a bit wobbly, but it stays nice and cool, even with frequent puffing.
If you are short on time, but don’t want to be shorted on flavor, La Flor Dominicana Carajos are just the ticket to a hot little 30 minute smoke.
