Coffee is one of the most popularly consumed beverages. It can be taken as a soothing cold beverage and also a perky hot one. A refreshing cup of coffee in the morning may really boost up energy and refresh the mind for the day. Though, hot coffee has been listed as an anti oxidant in a research study in the University of Scranton, the impact on health of this beverage, or any food item, ultimately depends on how it is absorbed and consumed in the body.
Effects of high consumption
A cup or two of coffee sometimes may act as a temporary stimulant and tickle the sensory organs with its flavor, but too much consumption starts showing the negative effects, gradually. These effects later on may turn into permanent health disorders.
Coffee and dehydration
Coffee not only contains caffeine, it is also a diuretic. This is the reason why the regular consumption of coffee over a time can make a person dehydrated and lead to diarrhea.
The lack of fluids and water in the body in turn leads to other health hazards and complications.
Coffee and Acidity
Another problem rising from too much consumption of coffee is \’acidity\’. It stimulates and increases the acid level in the stomach, which leads to nausea and vomiting. In severe cases, it can also take the credit of gifting the consumer with stomach ulcers.
Coffee and Insomnia
The sleep of a person may also be affected by coffee. Caffeine content in coffee boosts energy levels and heightens alertness. As such, it is often used by people who want to work late at night, to stay awake longer. This factor affects the physiological system in a manner that it leads to insomnia, causing difficulty in sleeping or not getting to sleep at all. One thing just not be ignored is that this beverage stimulates the brain in much the same way as amphetamines, cocaine, and heroin, though in a much milder manner.
Effects of coffee on teeth
Coffee affects not only the stomach and sleep, it has its effect on dentures as well. Coffee is considered to be a staining beverage making the \’pearly whiteness’ of teeth converted to a \’dingy\’ one. This can turn a beautiful ‘sunshine smile’ into what’s commonly known as a \’coffee smile\’. Starting from staining the teeth it can lead to effecting enamel and tooth decay also. Sometimes these stains are intrinsic, which means that the inside of the tooth is the place for these stains to occur.
Coffee with sugar
Coffee is generally taken with sugar. The coffee with sugar adds to the sugar level in the body and with time may turn the person diabetic also. A lot of people love having black coffee because, once again, it serves as a good stimulant and adds to the person\’s working hours. But, this addition of hours also adds up to the brain becoming a slave of this stimulant and gets addicted to it just as one gets addicted to alcohols, and can be known as a \’coffeeholic\’ just as an \’alcoholic\’.

So, a cup or two of coffee is fine, but more then that and that too regularly, should be avoided in one\’s own benefit.
