Ten Things to Do and See in NYC

There are so many things to do and see in NYC that sometimes it can be overwhelming deciding what you should do during your trip to the Big Apple. That\’s why I\’ve written this article; to help the overwhelmed traveler narrow down the list of possibilities to those things that they most want to do.

1. Visit the Statue of Liberty. This magnificent gift from France represents the greatest aspects of the American dream; \”Life, Liberty, & the Persuit of Happiness\” as Thomas Jefferson wrote over 200 years ago. The statue has welcomed millions of immigrants to the United States. If you are interested in the history of immigration then you could check out the Ellis Island Immigration Museum too!

2. Go to the Top of the Empire State Building. The most famous skyscraper in the world. It\’s a real thrill to see NYC from the top of the Empire State Building. But you should be warned that the line is usually quite long and there is some serious stair climbing involved!

3. Food on Foot Tours. If you are a \”foodie\” then this should probably be the number one thing on your list. NYC has some of the best food in the world. And please, for the love of all that is good in the world, do not waste even one meal during your New York trip at a chain restaurant! Applebee\’s and the like is nothing but glorified frozen meals.

4. Visit the Natural History Museum. The American Museum of Natural History is probably the most \”family friendly\” museum in NYC. Not that it\’s just for kids! It\’s really a wonderful place to visit for anyone who is curious about the world. And it\’s truly a remarkable experience to see a dinosaur skeleton with your own two eyes.

5. Visit the Madame Tussaud\’s Wax Museum. This is a real fun place to go. It\’s cool to take pictures with wax celebrities (both living & deceased.) If you get the lighting right you may even be able to convince someone you were really standing next to whoever the wax statue is!

6. Visit the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. You may not think that plants can be interesting but they really can be! The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is proof of that.

7. Rent a bicycle at Central Park. Want to take a ride around Central Park? You can. Just rent a bike!

8. See Bodies… The Exhibition. Personally I would skip this one, but I know some people that really enjoyed it. I can understand their fascination but at the same time something about it just creeps me out (these are real human bodies.)

9. Go on the Heroes of the World Trade Center Tour. It\’s almost been ten years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. On this tour you can pay tribute to the heroes of that horrible day.

10. Visit \”The Met.\” The Metropolitan Museum of Art is an enormous museum that should be interesting to anyone curious about history or art.
