Rocky Patel Renaissance cigars, introduced in 2008, have received universal praise and have earned a “Best of the Best” distinction from Robb Report Magazine, as well as, having earned a rating of 85 by Cigar Aficionado Magazine. Rocky Patel Renaissance cigars are hailed as the “rebirth of the Edge Sumatra”. If you are a fan of the Edge Sumatra, then there is no doubt you are going to be loving on the RP Renaissance.

Rocky Patel cigars have been characterized as rich, complex and balanced and well known for making top-of-the-line full bodied smokes. Rocky Patel in comparison with other established cigar brands is fairly new to the industry, making his start with the Indian Tabac brand in the late 1990’s. After his tastes for cigars evolved and became more sophisticated, he took complete ownership of the company and set out to study and learn the ropes of cigar making. After countless trips to Nicaragua and Honduras, he began to gain the necessary knowledge and expertise on the nature of tobaccos and the coveted art of cigar making. Today the Rocky Patel cigar product lines are basking in the glow of Rocky’s hard work and perseverance and are now highly respected among cigar enthusiasts.

The Rocky Patel Renaissance is an exemplary cigar that uses a four year aged Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a binder from Jalapa, Nicaragua and a blend of rare tobacco from Nicaragua. Only 6000 boxes are produced annually due to the limited qualities of the exceptional tobacco used.

Rocky Patel Renaissance Review

The Robusto is excellently constructed with a well formed cap. The Colorado Maduro colored wrapper has very thin veins that pose no problems with burn properties. It has a beautifully ornate, gold and brown band with the letters MZ on the back. Interesting side note: (MZ stands for Mark Zimenski, whose wife works with Rocky Patel. He passed away in a motorcycle accident, and this cigar was created in memory of him, hence the name Renaissance or “rebirth”).

At first light, flavors of rich mocha, sweet cream and spicy pepper hit the palate. The draw is firm, producing a plume of nice thick smoke. Notes of cinnamon and sweet raisin have been detected in the first stage of the smoke as well, along with a roasted nut flavor.

Through the beginning of the second third, the flavors stay consistent. The “sweet spot” introduces deeper flavors of creamy leather, roasted nuts and handsomely aged tobacco. Approaching the homestretch, you will not want to put this smoke down. The flavors remain deep and rich with notes of pepper, not as strong as in the beginning. The smoke remains nice and cool till the very end with absolutely zero bitterness.

This cigar burns evenly with a salt and pepper ash that has some flake but holds firm. The strength is not so overpowering that you need to smoke on a full stomach. The Rocky Patel Renaissance cigar is elegantly rich in flavor and highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a medium to full bodied smoke. Overall this stick is cigar smoking at its finest just as you would expect from RP.
