Do People Judge You on What Car You Drive

We’re all raised to believe that looks don’t matter and that the type of car we drive doesn’t really matter, but is that really true? First of all, everyone is different. Some people may feel happiest driving a Jeep while another may prefer a high performance hot rod. Personally I feel happiest when driving a luxury car. What about other people, do they judge you based on what you drive? I think so; I have witnessed so firsthand.

A few years ago I used to drive an older economy car. It was a bit dingy, old, not the best looking car out there. I used to get pulled over by the cops constantly. Now that I drive a luxury car I have not been pulled over once. Certain vehicles simply get more respect while others are more questionable. I have definitely seen luxury cars pulled over before; it just hasn’t happened to me yet.

Some experts claim that the type of car you drive doesn’t make a difference in the long run due to the fact that most people do not consciously think of what type of car they are driving all of the time. Well, it’s different for me because I am a very self-conscious person. I am always aware of the fact that I drive a luxury car; constantly. I notice that people instantly treat me differently based on my vehicle. I feel like people treat me with more respect when I drive a nice car; people treat me like I’m a “somebody”; I feel important. When I used to drive my really old car I felt invisible in the world; insignificant. I didn’t get as much respect from other people. It makes a huge difference in my emotional well-being and overall happiness.

I have also noticed that guys treat me differently depending on the vehicle I drive. I used to get approached more often, believe it or not, in my old car. Now that I drive a luxury car it seems like most men are intimidated by me; especially if my car is nicer than theirs.

Let’s take a look at a few common stereotypes people have about cars and the folks that drive them. People who expensive cars are assumed to be successful, yuppies and very brand conscious. People who drive 4-runners are usually thought of as easy going, relaxed and outdoors type of people. Folks who drive high performance cars are usually risk takers and speed lovers. Minivans are usually the domain of families and signify a boring and mundane life in the suburbs.

If you don’t want to sacrifice on quality and reliability but still want to drive a sweet ride, why not consider a pre-owned automobile? Used cars depreciate in value a lot less too and many have been reconditioned to be in great condition. There are many options available including used sedans, SUV’s, used trucks and coupes. Visit a used car dealer in order to find the best deals. Most people can’t tell the difference anyway between a brand new car and one that is just a few years old so chances are that no one will really know, unless you decide to tell them.
